Your thaughts on a KBXL 8s, ESC

Hey fellas, I am going to keep a SW36 hull and hardware I have to convert it to electric. I think for electric the hull will be perfect. I had a nitro one a couple years ago. It only did about 30MPH, but I could do WOT "U" turns without flipping. No problem. I always liked the way it handled.

Anyway, I wanna power it with a KBXL motor. I see Steven has the 1000kv version just not in stock. I was thinking that's the ticket for a 8s1p setup. 29.6 volts = 29,600RPM. Seems reasonable, I think anyway for a hot sport setup. The next lowest motor KV I can find in a KB45 is 700kv motor. I'm not sure thats enough RPM, plus Steven doesn't carry it and I wanna buy muy motor and accessories here

As far as the ESC goes, I cannot afford a schulze 40.160. Thats just to expensive for me. But I am not sure a OEM100 HV is enough....Or even a castle phoenix HV110. Any thoughts on other lower cost HV ESC's?

Last, for cells I am going to order two Polyquest 4s1p 4500Mah 30C packs. What can I say UH.com has smokin deals on them. They may not be "top of the line cells" but when they are two for one, and they work as well as they do, I'm sold.

OK, thats it. This is gonna be my fun runner for the summer season here I hope, Whatcha guys think?

I always try to buy from Steven first, but if it is out of stock, you can buy the KB45 11XL from an alternate site or PM him and ask how long until he gets more motors before you buy elsewhere.

Here is an alternate KB45 11XL

8s is not too much for the KB45 1000KV. You can use a M545 prop on it at 90 amps lipo/ 80 amps NiMH using Fe Calc. It has been fairly close on 8XL and 10XL motors.. Buy the highest amp rating controller you can afford for reliablilty. I like to have atleast a 30% margin between peak running amps and the controller max rating.

        FeCalc says around 45 mph.

I was thinking the SW36 was a 36 inch hull. It is only 26 inches and will not handle this setup.

The KB45 motors are for hulls over 32 inches long.

Watts, you must have been looking at the SW26, it's a electric 26" hull. This is a nitro powered boat. 36 inches long, 9 inch beam. Check the specs at horizon's site.....

I have actually decided to go with a KB45 8xl on 6s with a Hydra 120. Im gonna try small props and see where it leads me.....

With the cost of a HV esc....this year anyway 8s just puts me over the budget....man HV esc's are expensive......

Thanks watts....BTW I have had other people tell me that the 1000kv motor is not to much for 8s.....so to be honest I am a bit confused but I respect your opinion.

I didn't mean to confuse you, but this is what I said in my previous post.

8s is not too much for the KB45 1000KV.
The KB45 motors are for hulls over 32 inches long.
            I am running my KB45 1200KV on 8s.

Thanks watts! I must have misread your post. Maybe it was Steven or someone else that was telling me they did'nt think the 8s and 1000kv motor would work.

Anyway, thanks for the help. Tell you what....theres not a lot of HV people around here LOL

Lipo prices and higher amps have hurt the HV setups, but hopefully they will come down next year. Thats what I am waiting for. I like these setups because I have not lost a controller since I went HV 2 years ago. None of those unexplainable failures.

I here ya frostyan. I would have liked to go 8s....But checking the prices, the Hydra 180 HV esc is 385$. I went ahead and purchased a couple of hydra 120's. I fugure 6s should be fun at any rate, and it will make it a lot easier on the wallet. I debated buying a chinese HV esc, but there really are not any over 100 amps that I can find for a resonable price, being cheap chinese and no warranty.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm gonna start a build thread when I get more of the equipment in and I can actually start to build on this. I know im gonna have some questions and that, but it should go smooth. The guy I got the motor from had the shaft milled down to 5mm, and is including a 3 inch wide mount, predrilled for the KB45. it just so happens the SW36 has 3 inchs between the motor mounts, so it should be a nice quick clean bolt up of the motor.

                    Seeya!
