Good question Rick, I agree its very hard to find a good motor coupler that is not a compression type. Steve used to sell some that were set screw tightening for both the shaft and flex cable but I don't see those anymore. I think the problem with those are that the shaft holes need to be machined precise to get a perfect run-out. I know Jan from Kintec Racing sells one that is a 3 piece compression fit but those are the only ones I've seen besides the ones here on OSE.

Thats it right there in a nut shell. You need the right tools for this job- lathe with a collet. You need a tailstock that is swept in accurately. You also need a drill chuck with good precision. Last you need the technical expertise to overcome any issues you may have.

Ive made my own with just drill bits. They look like they have been bored & polished.

              Theres a method to use.

You DO want some clearance otherwise its press fit.

Scroll down to his 3 piece collets.

Sorry for advertising a different sight Mr. Vacaro.

I have tried using the Kintec coupler. After tightening then releasing collet the brass insert allways locks down on the cable making cable removal very difficult. What is the trick to prevent this from happening.

Just a suggestion, and not sure if this works on the 3 piece couplers but have you tried pushing the cable in a bit after loosening the compression coupler instead of pulling it out. it might release the fingers from the cable I know it works on tool compression couplers.

Good idea. I will try tapping the end of prop shaft using a small plastic hammer to release it. Hopefully the brass piece is not crimped onto flexcable.

They are real easy to over tighten.
