    JAE 21FE..Which motor??

Hi Guys.. I just got my JAE 21 FE,
Deciding which motor to slot into her..
    As I don't race at any events I was thinking a Neu 1415 2700kv, hydra 240.

    Should be Quick..
    One just isn't enough...

Thats what I got for mine, season hasn't started yet though so I cant say for sure how it will go yet though, I'm thinking it should be better than the 6xl that was in it last year and that went well enough, I'm just after a little more efficiency.

Yes 4s, 5s would be pretty much SAWs only for that motor. I was running about 34mm on the 6XL, which was not the limit of the motor by the way it was happy enough on a stock 40mm but I need 5.5 minutes runtime for Hydro2 racing and it only got 3 mins stock so I cut the hell out of a few in varying amounts until I got one that reduced the amp draw but kept nearly all most of the speed.

Im thinking about a jae 21 just for fun runs but fast with resonable costs, Looking at the Turnigy Typhoon 500 1800kv outrunner heli motor on 5s or 6s if they will go in the hull ok. Martin.

I don't know that motor, but the tub interior is 60mm wide and 55mm high if that helps, the tub is pretty tight for my 4s packs, there is a bit of extra room once their in but I couldn't get much bigger through the hatch opening which is 48mm wide, 5s would probably fit the tub but not through the hatch and may have to be built in, and I doubt 6s will fit at all. It's a good hull but make sure you measure up well before buying unusually large gear for one and remember that there is triangular stock running down the sides of the tub top and bottom, which reduces the size of rectangular objects like LiPos that can fit in.

Yes i will be building & checking sizes i can get in as i go & modding if nessecary rather than buying everything first, Another option was a Leopard 3674 2650kv on 4s, Which is a slightly dearer option that id looked at. Thanks Martin.

That Leopard is the same size as my 6XL and I can tell you that it does JUST fit with the stock mount in the stock position.

Thanks Nativepaul, Did you make the jae 21 from plans or was it one of the kits. If it was from plans was it from the actual one that was designed for electric or from the nitro design boat. Im also looking at building the smaller jae design Mini Sprint using the same set up that i have in my 15" micro mono but with a bigger prop so should be quick in this little hydro. Martin.

So how do you keep the speed up? What mods did you do?

Unless you know what you're doing and the changes to make I wouldn't build from the plans, the actual kit and the plans are different, built as per plan you could have CG issues if you run something bigger than a UL-1, My buddy built one as per plan over the winter, then had to do a major rebuild to make it work with a 3674.
Motor location, rear boom location and hull width are different on the plans.
Mine is being built by the plans - but I'm not mounting the motor or the rear boom until everything is in and/or mounted to the hull and I know the CG location is correct with some adjustability built in.
It's tight in there with a 3674, T-120 esc and a 4s 5000mah pack, not much room to move things around if it isn't right from the start.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?
