Steering Rudder placement and some help

Hi Guy's i noticed all my FE boats steering rudders where set back right on the side of the prop.... And when i moded my apache 24 the rudder i used was so short the prop went out back past it So i made a aluminum extention to make it longer.
I had some bad handeling with the boat in turns if you went a little fast it would kind of dig in pop up and do a wobble back and fourth and you can topple it over.
So will this further back rudder make improvements to the handeling ... see my extention i mad in photo.

Also i need a longer threaded end rod that slips through the rubber boot for the steering anyone know where i can get this?

    THANKS

Just buy a 440 threaded rod from the hobby store, cut to length and silver solder the other end?

EDIT- it looks like the threaded brass is just soldered on? You could most likely reuse it on a new rod.
