    Finishing a wood boat

Finally have my skidaddle too ready for finishing. Sanded smooth as a babys butt.

Is there someting I should do to prepair the wood?? I read on the forum stuff about epoxy, resen etc. but it seems like that is for the inside.

Is there such a thing as spray epoxy stuff??

Also read to use thinned aircraft dope??

Am undecided to paint of veneer.

    Advice appreciated. Bill

finishing epoxy both inside and out to seal the wood, then prime, sand that all off and paint or whatever.
Hope you sealed the inside as you were building it! Can be hard to get to all the bare wood inside.
This also gives the wood a bit more impact resistance, helps with the little dings.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Husky-thanks--did the epoxy thing before putting on deck-

For the hull and deck put on 2 coats of Minwax wood hardener, sanded and put on cherry veneer-stained a red mahogony--drying now-

Will paint inside-probably metallic bronze--need to final fit motor first-

Then spray marine poly, a few coats wet sanding between coats.

This has been an interesting build.

I have read also that you can use auto clear ont he bare hull to seal it. A lot of nitro guy's on Intl Waters do that. I have only used thinned epoxy on mine.

For a really good look nothing beats a well prepaired paint finish.

About ready for final finish on wood boat--have finishing epoxy-

Do I thin it?? (acetone?) Apply with brush?

                Advice apreciated.

I was told by one of the West Systems distributors who finishes canoes and real boats to paint with a quality China bristle brush and if you need to thin or clean up, use acetone. Make sure everything is really clean to avoid those nasty bubbles or irregularities.

                  looks good so far!!
