Then in regards to war...what is it good for?

        To the OP:

The stinger should fit the application. Are you currently building a boat or ordering parts to build a boat? Im sure people here could point you in the right direction. Just let us know what youre up to. Its hard to give a lot of info without knowing a little more. The effect could be different on a cat than a mono, for instance.

Well it does make a difference if your using prop location in relation to either and or turn fins and the rudder. A shorter coupling allows for a tighter turning radius. An example would be putting the prop closer to the turn fins on a mono. The turn fins would be the pivoting point , where as the rudder would determine the radius of the turn. Where the prop would be located is where the "force" or energy would effect from.

The trade off of having a short coupling is the hull may want to "hunt" or have a wobble to it as speed is increased. Once on plane it should have little effect if the hull is in trim.

So in short the answer is yes. It can very well make a difference. Just maybe not a big one.

Stinger length can be critical to handling on some monos. A good example is the Herzog Hurricane gas mono (a great FE boat too BTW). A standard SpeedMaster 1/4" stinger works very poorly on these hulls as it places the prop too far back into the water rising from under the hull. This pushes the bow down and in turns can cause terrible hooking.

It is standard procedure to cut 1/2" off the SpeedMaster stinger, then the boat drives beautifully. Not all monos are so effected, but if yours exhibits poor handling or won't get the bow up, try cutting the stinger.

How do you guys know he's running a mono?
He may be refering to a cat...or a bumble bee.

I didn't say what he was running, I was just answering a general question I thought others would be interested in.

Guess I'll just keep quiet from now on...

LOL. Wasnt giving you a hard time, just wondering if I missed something.

If it were a bee, stinger length can be directly relative to pain and alergic reaction.

In a cat you want to get the props out from under the boat.
