The one that I am running now has a 10,500Kv Novak for SAW N2 Sport the boat is built as light as possable. every trick I could think of. I would prefer a Castle ESC if it got the revs on that motor but a Novak needs a Novak ESC. Too bad Polly RC is not going to be around..... that is the cells I have been running.

I had a 1512 .5Y in it and 240LV ESC with 2S2P V937 way too much power for the foot print and my old eyes. that is what the bigger Z-27 ran

Funny the bigger Z- 27 ran almost 70MPH and held the N2 sport record for about 8 months.

thats why in my 4wd sc trucks I have gotten away from the novaks and tekins, I love them and the sensorless is great, just to much stuff going on with to many variables, I decided to buy the castle sct to try in my ofna 4x4 and am now slowly switching everything over, its like the vxl system, pretty much bomb and idiot proof but alot more torque and speed. It might be a good canidate to try in this boat. I compare the motor to something like a 4500-5000kv 540 can motor, but it runs a 550 size (1500 series) and is 4 pole so it put out some power cheap. Its good up to 850 watts.

Building a boat around a component or packs has failed me many a time.
I can see where you are at with a pile of 2S packs and keen to build, that is great !!
Decide if you want to go with 2S or 4S or 2S2P and then make a hull choice, being size and type.

Given a pile of 5000 2S packs I would go 4S to keep the amp draw down. That is me and how I roll. I am now playing with high volts / low amps to get the power I want.

        Watching and willing to help
        See it....find the photos.....sketch it it....build it........with wood

I really built/designed this boat (The Mini Zep) to run on smaller motors like the momba or car motors. I would like to set the boat up for oval with a 8.5 or 4800Kv and 2S1P, that is what is in the other one I have. Like I said the Novak is for the SAW I wish I had a bigger motor that pulled 10,000Kv and was 4 pole. So for now I have to use the Novak and it ESC.

I ran an 8th scale setup in my 4wd sc truck for a while to keep the amps down. But the castle system really seems to work well, it has almost as much torque on 2s and has a higher top speed.

As for the motor Randy, its smaller than a 550 size can and just a little bigger than a 540, I would say its as big as a vxl motor. I would compare it to an 8.5-10.5 that runs cooler, with more torque and longer run times.

                for the motor and esc,

                here they are

I am selling off some of my trucks, so when I take the motor out I can do a size comparison for you. Also it should be noted that its a 12 slot rotor. And they are roar legal for cars for a 540 class motor.

I also ran a castle mamba system with a 540 4600 in it as well, and this motor was faster.

from another site "Think of a Novak Ballistic 550 motor. Excluding the output shaft, the Castle motor is .015 shorter and .005 smaller in diameter as measured with my calipers. Not a difference you could see in a photo. "

So what they are saying it is a different motor than the Monba Max it is a 2 pole and this sidewinder is a 4 pole?

yes, completily different motor, I would have not thought twice about it if I did not see it at Ihobby this year, I kidna was just looking over there products, then I picked it up and started talking to the rep about them. I said I loved the speed out of my mamba 4600 but it got hot in my 4x4, and didn't really like the feel of the 8th scale setup in it and i was unhappy with the speed on low voltages, he said the 3800 sct motor would be faster than my 4600 on the same pack, with the same gearing. I figured for the cost it would be worth it since I was looking for a sport esc for a stadium truck, but after I hooked it up I was more than suprized with it.

I might start out with a predator just to get building quick, If it can fit 6 cells in it I should be able to fit a 2s 4000-5000 in it. I would like to find a hydro that will run on the same packs as well so I don't need anything else, and to keep it simple, hopefully a well known boat builder has some up soon

The predator can fit that pack in it, I have done it !!
Keep in mind the Predator is an old design based on round cells a car motors, like what I began with !
There are far better designs out there today and the JAE seems to be one of the most popular !!
Have a sniff round and read about them before you dive in for a build.
                        Just my 2c worth. !

I think the JAE is a cool boat, I somewhat followed them even though I was not running boats anymore, but its 4s, and requires more than a 2s boat in terms of $.

I know the predetor is an older design, but it seems to fit the bill in terms of being able to run a car setup in it, plus I am always tight on cash having a family and home to pay/fix/repair, babysitters, ect, ect. And the predator is on sale for $45 at fine design right now. I also know that Chris Fine has had alot of press about him, both good and bad, so lets keep that out of the disscusion. Truthfully I would much rather buy a boat from offshore or Randy, but I am on a super thin budget as it is. (not saying your boats are expensive Randy, the predator is just super cheap right now.)

what are the prices on the jae 12? did you build the mount into the boat? or was it a nitro?

It is "officially" a nitro boat.
