    Throttle going berserk

    Hi guys,

I am bench testing an h&m super cat with twin align 600xl motors...I have two t180 esc's with a y harness into a spectrum mr200 receiver...I have binded the receiver to my spectrum dx3e radio...I connected a 6s battery to each esc and both motors turned as expected when I gave some throttle...I was satisfied until I turned the power off on my radio...the motors then cranked to full throttle and jumped me..I quickly pulled the wire from my receiver and killed the power..could have been dangerous for sure....what happened here? I binded the receiver again and the same thing happened...I was using the bec's on the t180's when testing

And also am I doubling the voltage to my receiver by using the bec's on the turnigy's?

Sounds like you need to set the fail safe to neutral everything.

That would be the dials on top correct?

remove power from the motor before turning off the radio

You are paralleling the voltages to the reciever so that should not be an issue, but never turn off your radio first...turn off the power to the reciever....unplug your batteries and then turn off the radio.

Setting the fail safe is when you set your transmitter to the esc.You dont use dials.Setting the fail safe is required so if your boat goes out of range or upside down or gets interference, the throttle and steering go to neutral. If you have it set right, with the boat batteries plugged in to the esc's,turn off the transmitter and nothing should happen. No throttle,no steering.Just a dead boat.

If only you posted this yesterday..... Today I did the same thing with my Miss Geico except it was in the water facing a cement pillar and plowed into the pillar at about 30 mph. I don't need to tell you guys that I'am a rookie to FE boats but I guess I'll learn the hard way on this one. Now I have to find a new MG hull.

Did you read the owners manual?

Actually..I just checked the manual on-line and it doesn't state anything like that.........was there a radio manual included?

                      RULE NUMBER ONE:

                      1. TRANSMITTER ON > TURN ON RECEIVER > PLUG IN BATTERIES

2 UNPLUG BATTERIES > TURN OFF RECEIVER > TURN OFF TRANSMITTER

                      or more simply:

                      TRANSMITTER FIRST ON LAST OFF

The same holds true for airplanes, cars, etc.

It's weird because I have had other boats I have turned the radio off while caarying the boat back to shore and this has never happened before..this would definitely suck if the boat was facing you and decided to go 60 at you up onto shore

A friend of mine just got done building his genesis last week. He took it out for the first test run. Flipped it over. Realized he forgot his retrevial device. hoped in his tuck to drive down the street with his transmitter with him. When he got back it had apparently run wide open for a while. The drive shaft was missing and there was large hole in the hull where it had been.
