Velc for Batteries etc Question?

Started to use straight Velcro instead of the traditional wooden trays for my batteries and ESC and all was well....at first. As inevitably happens a little water got in the boat and the Velcro came up with the battery. tried a different brand same result.

So obviously I can glue it back down but was wondering if that was such a good idea if you ever wanted to take it out it might be a problem? Maybe use a glue like Goop that does not set up solid?
What do you guys think?

ive been using a dot of epoxy on each corner and one in the middle. holds good but can be removed if need be. Just works for me. Im sure there are other options.

Which velcro are you using? I've been using the "Industrial strength" stuff for everything but I haven't really soaked it in water yet. (knock on wood)
It's supposed to be weather "resistant".

Fold some channel brackets out of say 1/2" wide x 1/16" soft aluminium so you can bend without breaking & bond them into the bottom of the hull ( 2 per lipo, 1 each end of lipo). Each Velcro strap passes through a channel & then around the lipo with the lipo sat on top of the channels. Difficult to describe i know but their very simple indeed. Thanks.

One thing I do before putting velcro down is to clean the area good with rubbing alcohol first...

Used "heavy duty" Velcro from the hardware store or RC Hobby shops not the super-loop stuff from Radio Shack. Thought of it but it grips so hard I thought I would pull it up taking the batteries out.

Also I did not prep the area with alcohol as suggested by Hotwater. For now I will go with dabs of Welders glue and see how it does.

Have not seen any of that aluminum channel Martin suggested I must not have looked in the right part of the hardware store.

You cant buy the channel you have to fold it yourself from flat aluminium strip, Very simple to fold either in a vice or with pliers. You end up with a channel with 2 flat pieces on the side of the channel witch sit against the bottom & get bonded to the hull leaving the hollow channel part for the Velcro to pass through. The whole thing only stands around 3mm off the bottom of the hull. Martin.

I use the "industrial strength" velcro and it has not failed me yet. Shoe Goo would be my choice if the velcro sticky came loose!

Clean the hull as mentioned , I use acetone . use some spray contact cement like 3m where you want the velcro to stick ( cover , but not very thick) let it dry , then apply the good velcro . Do it right the first time , it won't move .
It comes off , but not easy .

Sorry i dont have any pictures but its such a simple way of holding the battery very secure. Its so simple its difficult to discribe. Think of your belt going through the loops on you jeans, In this case the loops are made from say 1/2" wide x 1/16" aluminium bent to shape. So theirs 4 folds in total per loop, The 2 flat pieces either end of the folded loop sit flat in the bottom of the hull & get bonded in with a bit of glass cloth. Martin.

Welders is a glue that I use on my EPP foam rc planes, dries clear and flexible. Good stuff I usually get mine from Lowe's. (Not good on depron foam it eats it)

Don't fool yourself, even "Industrial Strength" Velcro will come up if it gets wet. Instead of an additional adhesive I use a combination of Velcro hook-and-loop to keep the packs from sliding plus Velcro straps to hold them down. The latter can be installed by various methods, in boats with stringers I drill holes into the stringers and bolt the straps in place. Never had a strap come loose, even in an 80 mph crash.
