I blew another Feigao 10XL today on my mean Machine I am running 5s with a 180 A esc, the boat was running nice with a X442 on it I did a coulple laps brought it in it was cool to the touch, ran down 1 set of Lipos to the LVC so I bring the boat in and .I put in a new set of lipos and prop it down to a 440 just to see how she does,, well the boat dies out there after 2 laps . I get it back and the motor is locked up. I bring it home take it out and the armature is sliding back and forth in the case,, whats up with that ? did I screw something up or did the motor go bad on me thanks chris

I've run quite a few Feigaos from 380's to 580's and had two failures. One was due to an out of round coupler and one had the laminations come off of the rotor. Overall I am very pleased with it's performance to price ratio. I have some that I've just plain ol beat up and it just keeps on ticking. I've been noticing a lot of people having issues with them now. I wonder if the quality control has gone down lately? It could just be setup issues. 5s on a 9xl is kinda hot. All of mine are older models. If all of your wishes are granted, many of your dreams will be destroyed!Comment

This is the inside of a damaged AMMO motor, very similar in design to the Feigao. It threw the two magnets off the shaft and locked up. Hard to tell what happened with yours but likely it looks like this one.

I saw that pic I am assuming the 2 1/2 round plates came off the shaft and it that what they call the rotor ? thanks chrisComment

Thats the magnets on the rotor. You see that happen on the cheaper motors typically. Since the rotors are not wrapped like more expensive motors they are subject to either thermal or mechanical shock forces. Maybe even less then optimum production techniques. Your a smart guy Chris. Ditch the cheap stuff. Took me years of listening to guys like Jay passing along their experience to finally wake up and smell the roses. Play with the cheap stuff as long as your not pushing the envelope. I have yet to blow up a Neu motor due to my stupidity. I have purchased some used that did need to go back but not due to my fault. On the other hand I have smoked a few speedos but thats another topic.

But if your like me you should ask the question "can I put a 1515 size can" inside? Will a 40mm can fit? Are you limited by the motor mount? Answer those questions and you might not need to use a Neu. The Leopard 4074 series can be a cheaper option but will never be a Neu. If all you need is decent performance and are not stuck with a size restriction look around for options.
I can give a decent example for comparison. Last year I started traveling for work. Twice a month across the country. 8 thousand miles each month. 4 to 6 hours each way. I decided I wanted some noise cancelling headphones to remove the enviornment. Researched what seemed to be the best for the money. Found that Bose QC15's were top of the line. Didnt want to spend $300 so I purchased another version but down a level. QC2's. Worked great for 6 months. Then the plastic parts started falling apart. Spoke to Bose (warranty) and they informed me I could upgrade go the QC15's for another $150. Well I spent $120 on the QC2's. Another $150 made it $270, darn close to the original $300.
I decided to research it a bit further. Found out that Bose was not a company I wanted to continue doing business with. Their answer was not to make things the best they could be, just give you options at the least painfull choice. That really, really bothered me. Make a long story short I found out Sennheiser made some expensive quality headphones but with a 100% replacement warranty. Not an upgrade to the next level for an additional cost. And they didnt have a design issue either. I got a quality product, backed by a company who valued their customers. My PCX450 headphones are at least as good as the Bose QC15 headphones, a company survey form was sent out after 6 months to see how I liked my purchase. I wouldnt buy a set of Bose headphones now if they were a dollar unless I just wanted to rip off someone to make a buck.
Sorry about the long winded explanation, but my experience has been if you spend a little more initialy, and you research customer satisfaction, you will find a much better performance level with what you end up with. Now Bose wasnt cheap, just their product quality sucked. I ended up buying the Sennheisers and own a set of headphones that will not let me down due to design.
Get the Neu. Nuff said.

I dont how much room you have inside the hull but will assume a 36mm can/mount is what you need to stick with. A 10XL is a 1668kv motor. So on 5S its perfect. As to a Neu replacement you would need to bump to a 1415/ 1.5Y 1500kv for a direct drop in. That motor would make any Fiegao look like the red headed step child!
