    suitable mono for an outboard

Hi all i plan on doin a mono after i spend a while with my motley crew.

It will be ran on 4s2p and i would like to powering using a proboat outboard and a t180 amp esc not sure on motor selection basically brainstorming for now.

I was thinkin of using a delta force 29 or seaducer of some kind as i would like to race it as i have seen outboard monos but there all powered by nitros and i wanted to do an F/E.

    Any thoughts would be great.

Frankly, I would not go the mono route, I would go for a tunnel hull with your proposed motor and power setup, just my Scottish/Canadian thoughts. There are other outboard motor/ power schemes that may work with your hull choices and I do not have that experience. What do other members think?

Asking the same question on this US forum you asked on the Australian forum will gain you same answers in a different accent.

      Go the tunnel route, mate.

true lol but as you know im tryin to do it without the tunnel i guess i could try it out and if it dont work then ill go back to inboard.

I just got a message from jerry at seaducer and he is more then happy to do me up a mono with some changes for the outboard which is cool but it wont be till next year sometime it was just a random thought and the motley will keep me occupied for a while.

Once again for the help guys i appreciate it the joys of being a newb and tryin to do somethin custom and unique is always a delight lol

They are slower, mostly due to drag I guess, and they don't turn as well, odd things happen with the angles when the motor turns and the hull leans, hard to set up to turn and go straight, they tend to push the bow down in the turns if trimmed properly for the straights.
Years back I blew up my inboard near the end of the season, I stuck my K&B 3.5 on the back, took a ton of lead in the nose to get the cg right but you can move the batteries as far forward as possible, you still might need lead, I had about a pound in the nose!
Then like I said if it ran right straight it sucked in the turns and vice versa.
Your original idea of a cat would probably work much better than a mono, they corner almost flat.
A tunnel is really the only rc boat that performs as it really should with an outboard.
For a while a lot of guys had outboard monos so they could race in a bunch of classes with one boat, that was 25 years ago though. You don't see many race boats today that are outboard unless it a tunnel.
I just can't see an outboard mono being able to compete with the speeds guys are doing with inboard setups.
It's not a matter of being different than anybody else, it's that it's been tried and found to kinda suck!
People have to get the idea out of their head that just because it works on a full size boat it will work on a 3" rc boat.
If you scale everything up by a factor of 10 the full sized boat would have to do near 500mph!
How many full sized boats do you see turning a prop near 1/4 the width of the transom at 30 000 rpm?
We can make small boats but the water doesn't shrink!
Picture trying to run said 30' boat at 500 mph in 30-40" seas!
Absolutely nothing wrong with building a scale offshore boat with outboards on it just don't expect it to compete with an inboard.
Maybe we need a scale offshore class! LOL
On this one you're trying to re-invent a wheel that doesn't work too well in a race setup.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

hi siberian husky yes that makes much better sense now lol thanks for taking the time to explain how the scale factors work it puts alot into perspective and it would be cool to have a scale offshore class .

But since ill be the only one running an rtr boat at my club i dont see that happening lol but yer after i race the stock motley a while ill look more into converting it even grim said it could work and be cool with work and tuning though.

Which is fine as i have someone to help and ill spend plenty of time testing and setting up as by then ill have some experience doing that and more skills in general as i said i would like to race the stock motley while keeping the warranty in tact.

Other wise i would have to wait till it expires before i can do bullet connectors as i dont want to void the warranty by doing that just to race.

Because if the deans wont hold up in racing or bashing and i do have to change the connectors then it will just have to sit on the shelf or something which sucks but if i have no choice then so be it as i dont want the boat catching fire because the deans melted or something lol.
