    Skeg Use

Has anybody run an under hull skeg on a mono as you would on full size race boat.

I was involved with racing powerboats for some time and we always ran a skeg.

Anyways be nice to hear if anybody has or if it would be worth a try.

    Cheers

I was thinking of building a hull with a bigger planing plank and running a skeg to keep it on the straight and narrow.

Skegs just don't work on deep vees. You want the DV to lean over in a turn but a skeg keeps it upright, compromising the cornering. No good reason to use one, all the DVs I've seen or run work best with transom mounted fins.

Shallow vees are another story. We had to use them on Crackerboxes if we wanted to make any turn safely.

The other thing we ran was to fold the outside edge of the trim tab to make it like a turn I guess. This really helped out with spinning in the corners.
