    Destroyed motor questions?

While bench testing my AMMO 2600, this occurred. Any thoughts as to why so it doesn't happen again.

A bizarre incident in the outskirts of an American suburb. It was later revealed the disaster was caused by the T-Virus. A mutagentic toxin created by Umbrella Incorporated for use in bio-weapon experiments. Don't worry the zombies are looking for brains, you're safe.

Im told that bench testing motors for more than few seconds can damage motors & is not a good idea. Martin.

Wasn't more than a split second. I hooked it up, than slightly got on the throttle and than it bound up. Took it apart and this was what was inside.

Yup, never good to run a motor unloaded more then a few seconds. Not good to go WOT on the bench either. I normally just do a quick tap of the throttle to make sure it runs and the rotation is correct.

If it was new you may be able to get warranty for it.

I bought it from a member on this site, so no go there. I had two, and the other one ran fine, I tested that one yesterday in the UL-1 and no problems. So I figured I'd test this one today. You see how that turned out.

Looks like a cracked rotor that went to complete seperation upon reving it up. No way to know how it cracked. You might have recieved it cracked unknowingly. Could be a manufacturing flaw, motor could have been dropped. Previous owner might know something. Might not. If it wasnt packed well it have been the shipper. Some shippers are known to be gorrillas.

Just out of curiosity, can you purchase a replacement rotor/magnet assembly?

Normally you cannot buy just a rotor assy unless you are talking about certain motors. Neu will sell you most motor parts, Castle has motor rebuild kits for their 1512 and 1515 series. The rest I'm not too familar with with the exception of sending the motor back to the factory and having it rebuilt. Typically the cheaper motors your simply out of luck. But that doesnt mean you keep an eye open on the various for sale forums and you might score a part that you need. Lots of guys do dumb stuff like ruining a rotor and sell the case/windings cheap. Like wise, guys ruin a motor by stripping the motor mount screws. So there you would have a good rotor. Keep your eyes open. Small details can lead to opportunities!
