    Flippin' Boat

    Good evening all,

I am enjoying the speed of my new (used) SV27.. but it does have a tendency to flip pretty easily. It does not have a left turn fin, but that's coming soon enough. I found that rudder adjustments made a difference, but at the loss of cooling. It would flip nicely with the rudder straight down, but with much better water flow. With the rudder back, it turns much nicer but there's almost no cooling flow. So, I would like to get better cooling, and less rollovers. Let me know if there's something I'm missing?

    Thanks!

SV's are known to flip. Tuck the rudder forward and round off the bottom leading edge of the rudder and round the very bottom of the rudder were the flat spot is on the wedge. I wish I had a pic, but the hull is getting extra unneeded lift which is a cause of flipping and also check your battery placement.

Check out water pickups in the OSE store. They are cheap and simple to instal, and they will eliminate the effect your rudder placement seems to have on water flow.

The sv27 will flip from time to time, but proper battery placement, rudder and strut adjustment, trim tab adjustment, and practice driving will help. Im sure you are a good driver, but the more you drive and become familiar with what makes it flip, the more you will be able to adapt your driving to minimize this occurance.

        Thanks guys..

I'm running Turnigy 5000's 40C x2, with the stock speed controller and I am not sure what motor it has, but I think its either the stock SV27 BL or the UL1 motor. I'm running this with the grim racer 42x55 prop, it pops out of the hole quite nicely and tops out on par with a stock UL1 that was on the water yesterday.

The boat flips when the rudder is straight down, its almost like it "catches" and then it rolls several times before settling on its deck. With the rudder swept back a couple of degrees, it corners at better than half throttle without any problem.

So, I will install a better water pickup, trim tabs, left turn fin, and make the adjustments to the rudder as suggested above.

And, the last point about driving? I agree, more practice is required, I am brand new with the boats.
