    1/10 scale hardware setup question

can anyone recommend what size hardware to use on a 35" 1/10 scale hydro. I might be in over my head trying to build a boat from scaled down Newton plans. was looking at the Speedmaster line. maybe someone can provide part numbers for the rudder, strut and what size shaft to use. was thinking of using the Aquacraft UL-1 motor/esc setup. would this size boat be considered a 21 sport or 40?? also, if anyone can post pics of their 1/10 boat setups it would be appreciated. many thanks for any and all tips!

Run a .150 cable on a 3/16 stub shaft, a rudder that is 3.75 inch X 3/4. Sorry I do not use Speedmaster so I can not bee any help there. Good luck.

strut with .187 bearings is fine I think it is a speedmaster 20 series but I am not sure.
I think it would be a sport 40 what boat you building?

Where are you located and are you racing? You may not be able to use a flex depending on where you race.

Its a 1974 Red Man. I'm in the Bay Area...not sure if anyone races around here. Have always wanted to build an R/C scale boat. I'm definitely a newbie! Thanks for the tips. Keep them coming!

Depends how scale you want to be, my vintage 1/10 wahoo has a scale strut under the hull with a 3/16 solid shaft, part of the prop under the hull. The only thing on the transom is the rudder.
I've gone as close to scale as possible, right down to internal structure of the working wet sponsons.
It is exactly 1/10 the scale of the original by the NAMBA master hull registry numbers.
Different clubs and sanctioning bodies have different rules as to what you can call a "scale hydro" Some are much closer to the real boat than others. different power specs as well.
That doesn't matter if you're building for the joy of it.
I've gone much more "scale" than a lot of people, no other 1/10 hydros to run against around here so I built it because I love the boat. Same as you.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

That should be an X442R, NOT 447!! Sorry for the typo! Woohoo, that's burn the motor and esc up!

If you are truly going to run it in scale, you better read the NAMBA/IMPBA rules! For Vintage, the pop must be under the boat For Modern I believe it is a bit different. Not sure.

Rudder should to on the right side. Remember, 1/10th scale runs a counter clockwise course!

The UL-1 will be fine. Keep it light. That's a pretty good sized boat. I use the SV27 motor, less KV, more torque, and I run Octura X442R. That's RIGHT HAND PROP. Remember, you're doing left turns!

I am in Concord Ca. and we race in Fremont there is a small group at Kaiser cove Niles canyon. We all run right hand turns. Right now it is fun runs only. but we are building a group of electric 1/8 scales to run with the nitro guys.

We are waiting for a clear Sunday (No Rain) and we are going to come out and run. there is about 6 electric 1/6 scales in in the district. several P speck Sport Hydros some P speck monos and such. I started a 1/10 scale but it will take a while for me to finish the mold. We have a Miss Elam, Miller American, My 1974 Miss Bud, one Speedy printing , James C. has an one and a Pro boat 1/8. I think there is more but my list is at work. we just had a race two weeks ago. we need to get the group ready them we can go race.
