    call me crazy

alright, i have a ul1 thats currently being powered by a 1700kv tacon, seaking 90a esc, and 2x 3s 3000mah 30c. (6s duh) pushed by a grim L40x57 3b. THIS SUCKER RAN FAST AND UNBELIEVABLY STABLE! battery temps: cool. motor temps: cool. esc temps: warm (not hot). capacitors: hot! now, i have a turnigy/seaking 180a esc on the way. of course your thinking theres no way one can fit it in that hull. now, my idea will be to create a type of sub hatch for the esc. for example: cut where its necessary, then fabricate my own cover to go over the exposed wires etc. guys im looking for ideas from some clever minds. i dont care about how it looks as i am experimenting. but i just want to make sure i can find an idea to properly cover and seal the exposed parts that i will cut out. think of it this way, I MUST GET THIS ESC TO FIT IN THIS UL1! (ive heard of using a heat gun and a square piece of plexiglass to form a bubble over the exposed areas)
If the #2 pencil is the most popular, why is it still #2?

WOW I wish you luck with that one. I would just sell the T-180 and buy a swordfish 200. Same price, 20 extra constant amps and will fit right on with no mods. http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...ef-sword-200lv

Their in the swap shop, I just bought one last week from the swap shop and one just sold earlier today in the swap shop.

*I know your determined for THAT esc. Just curious as too why?

thanx diesel. hey, is it hard to add caps to my esc?

i was told that ading caps aids in cooling the esc. true or false?

dreamland, if everythings cool but the caps are hot, my guess would be its not necesarily the esc, but it could be the batteries. Even though they arent getting hot, they could be causing the caps to get hot by demanding the caps to do too much work through voltage spikes that the batts cant handle. I know there isnt a lot of room in the UL-1 for 6s...What batts are you running?

i would cut a hole in the tub then just drop the t180 in there rather than screwing with the hatch

                      Mr crazy,

I just mounted a T-180 in my Mean Machine.
If you cut the shrink wrap off the leads (where they come out of the ESC), they fold over better. This allows the unit to mount in a lower space.

I made a "Bubble" in my sub hatch, using insulating foam from the builders supply store. The underside of the foam bubble is hollowed out to accomadate the extra height of the motor.
The foam is easy to shape using a saw and sandpaper. It dents very easy, so I paint it with epoxy glue.

You can lay glass over the foam, then once the resin cures remove the foam completely.

isnt that a bad idea? like doesnt water get inside the hull itself? according to one of my friends water gets inside and thats why theres a drain plug. i thought about doing that! not a bad idea IF no water gets through!
