    mono balance point

Just bought a Jollymotor Offshore hull from Jim Slaughter at minicatracingusa.com- he has them at half price while supplies last. Any ideas on where the balance point is supposed to be- wouldn't mind getting it right the first time. Thanks- Mike

I agree 30% in from transon is a good starting point.

Thanks for the replies- that's about what I thought but it pays to be sure.

I run between 28-33% depending on the hull..............

I have a question regarding this and figured to post here instead of making another thread. I hope the OP doesn't mind.

I see some monos have the motor really close to the transom and the battery mounted just in front of the motor, in the center. How do you figure where to mount the motor? Is that determined by the battery being COG now instead of the motor? I just bought a used Prince that is setup for running 2, 2S packs and I want to mount 1 4S pack in the center. But for this I need to move the motor back but need to know how to figure that out.

            Thanks
            Rafael

I just put everything in the boat then start moving stuff around until I get the CG and room for everything. This is of course with all the transom hardware installed or stuck on with 2 sided tape.
There is no "right" way within reason, you're not going to put the motor way to the front or right behind the transom.
I like more central motor locations, not as a severe bend in the stuffing tube, but I make sure I have enough "play" in the battery location so I can move them back and forth enough for a potential motor size change or pack size change.
Also with the weight more centrally located you end up with less momentum to any rotation around the cg.
Think of 2 pounds at he end of a teetertotter or 2 pounds near the pivot point, still weighs the same but the physics have changed substantially.
I like my initial CG to be 30% with the batteries mounted in the center of their adjustment range.
I hate adding dead weight to a boat to get it to balance, I'd rather move "useful" ballast, like batteries. Or add useful ballast like a separate RX pack.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Multiply the hulls length by .03, measure this distance forward from the transom and mark that point on the hull. Check the models balancing point and move the batts. fore or aft to make the boat balance on the mark made. Do a test run, if the bow rides low and plows, move the balance point back an inch. If the bow hops up and down, move the batts. foreword.
