do caps have a directional signal flow?

im adding a couple of caps to my 180, i noticed the 2 prongs coming off the cap are different lengths, and in all cases the shorter length corresponds with the gray stripe on the cap itself. does this have meaning? or just coincidence... thanks

Yes - the gray side is the - or negative side.

I am glad you asked. a reverse polarity to the cap will pop it in just seconds, with a big explode sound and really bad smell.
