    bad throttle habits

which is worse for speed controllers? a lot of on and off the throttle or
cruising a half throttle for long periods with some full out bursts now and again..both cannot be good but which is the lesser of the 2 evils? it seems like the lakes i run on have chop at all times and i am always on and off the throttle..also i am going to trying a hot setup and i want to do the best i can to keep happy esc's..

With no design ESC experience I would suggest the latter as the worst scenario, as you will be running the boat in a wet condition most of the time

Rip, neither is good for the ESC, but your best bet is to run your boat at full throttle, youre going to get alot of amp draw and put alot of strain on the ESC going at half throttle for long periods of time, especially if youre going to burst it open every once in awhile

I like to use lower voltage (fewer cells) for choppy conditions - which allows for 2P configurations as you still need the weight.. that way you don't have to be evil at all

When the water is rough or it's windy, prop down to increase WOT time while decreasing speed. Either smaller diameter/pitch, or same diameter less pitch. Sometimes too little diameter means the boat struggles to get on plane.

makes sense..you have to go slower anyways because of the chop..thanks fluid

It's best to not get OCD and just go enjoy your toys however you feel like using them...

...except that the way a lot of guys use them destroys the ESC and costs them money. For some reason that isn't fun for most of them. We have to be intelligent about how we use our toys if we want them to last, nothing to do with OCD.

Buy a bigger ESC. I haven't blown one up yet, but have the spare waiting.

Hahaha! I agree. Using common sense at WOT will do wonders for your electronics
