Forgive me if I missed this, but are you running an air esc with a pistol grip remote?

Sounds like he's using an aircraft transmitter. That may not work. The throttle travel timing is different from a pistol style radio. FIRST thing he needs to do is try to calibrate the throttle. Go to full throttle, plug in the battery, wait for beep(s), move to low throttle, wait for beep(s). Unplug the battery. Throttle travel is now calibrated. At least on most esc's anyway.
NOW, after calibrating, you can try to program the esc.Mini Cat Racing USA

The ESC is a boat unit. Using a Spektrum DX5e transmitter with AR500 receiver.Tried the throttle cal. Not sure if it changed anything. If the morse code(SUPPO) is right for the HK B200A ESC, I changed the battery to 2S Lipo 6v cutoff, throttle to Hard acc. Did a water test and it looks like it takes off just fine if I let the boat move. Still don't have reverse since I tried to program the ESC. Looks like we're on the right track.Comment

Cutch.
I'm pretty sure that those ESC's don't have reverse.
They can be programmed for reverse rotation, but it's easier to swap two of the winding connectors.
To use a 'stick' transmitter I always used use the stick with the ratchet on it & pull it all the way back for Zero (Down). Full throttle is all the way forwards (Up). The programming instructions will make more sense to you that way too when they talk of moving the stick full up & fully down. Programming works better that way too.
Cheers.
Paul.See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!
