    Pursuit HELP with motor

    Hey,
I just bought this boat from a friend. I have been doing alot of reading about what upgrades I need for this boat. I am a little confuse now.
This is my first boat to own. So I am not real educated with boats. I run nitro buggies and Rc cars. This hobby really looks fun.
I just bought the 180esc from HK. I am looking to get a good motor. I was thinking the Leapords 4070 style will work. Not real sure which KV to go with. I will be running 4s. I am not wanting to change the shaft or beef up the motor mount, and etc. I just want a boat to play around with that will not get the motor or ESC to hot.
    Any suggestion on props?
Thanks guys and look forward to meeting you out on the water.

I'd go with the 2000kv motor for 4s with the 180esc you already have in that little mono with maybe a x642 S&B prop, its around 33,000rpm, so there shoulnt be ANY heat problems.

      Cool,
How do you calculate RPM's? I was looking on the Leopard website under their motors, and can't figure out how much rpm a motor can handle. Or what is the max, so I know to be on the safe side.

Nevermind on the RPM. I was looking on another thread and found it.
        Thanks

I'd go with the 2200kv leopard, I am building this same boat and asked lots of ?s also and for the most part I had alot of people recommend that motor. They seemed very happy with it. Most of these high end motors have a 60,000 rpm capacity but you don't want to be anywhere near that number. The goal is right around 30,000 rpm.

You can get that prop here

This is all from what others have told me and helped me.

Does your boat have the stock motor? If so, is it the 3660 1620kv...............?? If you just want to "play around with it", then i wouldnt even bother on a 4074 Leopard really...............just go with a Feigao 540 9XL and an x440-442. It will provide cool running and some good speed. The Leopard may be a bit too much for the stock driveline.................... The Feigao is less $$ at $69 and should/may fit the stock mount.....
NEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? QUALITY 5.5MM, 8MM, 8 AND 10 AWG, GET THEM HERE: http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...est!&highlight=

                Thanks guys,
I couldn't help myself. I went ahead and bought the Leopard 4074 2200kv motor with this motor mount.
                Product ID: ose-80610
Carbon, Heavy duty water cooled mount for Leopard 4074

                Also bought this
                Product ID: ham-leopard-4074L
                Leopard 4074 Water Jacket, Long

Now just waiting on the prop.

So I might need to change the flex shaft?

All I can say is here we go again.
Thanks again for all your input guys. I might need to go racing now down here in Houston.

                  Hyrule,
Is this the same prop as the S&B prop?

S&B means Sharpened and Balenced. That's where you sharpen the leading edge of the blade and then balence the whole thing so it spins perfectly evenly without one blade being heavier than the other. The props you buy, unless used, are not S&B you would have to do that yourself. There are threads on how to do that here.

                      Chuck,
Next time you're out at Vertigo give me a shout. I have several boats that I run in a retention pond on the Gulf Freeway between League City and Dickinson. Have a number of props we can try out when you get it set up (or stock for that matter) along with GPS and Eagletree logger. I'm guessing you'll be down @ the Rivertrack this weekend for HARC, I don't go down there since I'm not a racer like you. We'll have some fun with the boats.

                        Lectride,
Cool on meeting at Vertigo. Have to say, who am I meeting? Not sure who you are with your avitar... I'll be taking it out to the river tomorrow. I think darren might bring his out. Would love to start meeting with you guys.

                        Hyrule,
The reason I was asking about the straight and balance prop, they sell those on this website. He said he should have some soon.

Ahh, yes I forgot they do offer those props too. That would work but I think lectriglide has the best offer to let you try out lots of props to see what turns out to work the best before buying a S&B prop since they are more expensive. Good luck though, I can't wait to get mine on the water!
