Motor selection for twin drive apparition

Hi all im planning a twin drive apparition for racing. It will have 2 4s packs either 2 120 amp escs or 180 amp escs not sure about those either.

I was wondering what would be good 380 size motors to use and do castle make motors that size.

I was thinking around 2200 kv which would give 31680 rpm on 4s thanks.

I am in the same boat as you so to speak.I have the Fieago 380XLs with 120a ESCs and I want to upgrade to a better motor like the Leopard 2860 series which are 380 diam motors.28mmX 64mm long and 4 pole.More than double the watt rating.Info is hard to find on the smaller motors like these so keep checking the EKOS and other twin cats sites.I am probably going to order a set to try but I am waiting to see if the copy cat Tacon motors are the same I will buy them for $29 less each.

Get the best deals for Leopard 2860 at eBay.com. We have a great online selection at the lowest prices with Fast & Free shipping on many items!

You could rock some ARC motors. 540 can with both 25mm and 19mm spacing. The 19mm would be a direct bolt up for your stock motor mounts.

I took a dremal to my motor mounts, reinforced the motor mounts and dropped in some $19.99 Turnigy outrunners lol. Ran 53mph on CF40mm C/R props. I got some C/R CF45 I will try next. Should get me pretty close to 60mph. Not bad for $40 worth of motors and $10 worth of props lol...

sounds awesome so i could fit 540 motors in there as long as they have 19mm spacing as i would love to fit 2x castle 2200 kv motors i dunno ever since i heard about those motors makin a car do 90 mph i have always wanted them in a boat lol sorry about this im just new to this brushless stuff.

The leopard you suggested looked great maybe 2190 kv in the 2860 series as ill be runnin on 4s which would be around 31,000 revs or should i go a bit higher and the stock motors are 2881 kv i think it would be a bit to high at around 40,000 revs.

P.S ur boat looks awesome what other changes did you have to make and are the flex shafts single piece or 2 piece cheers

Best bang for buck & performance go with the outrunner motors, They produce more torque so will take bigger props than the inrunners & more pitch = more speed. Martin.

              with this hardware http://fightercatracing.com/index.ph...emart&Itemid=1

and this motor combo or maybe somethin better http://fightercatracing.com/index.ph...emart&Itemid=1 im am unsure about outrunners well alot more than that lol buti really appreciate everyones help and i can make it kinda custom with different factory options such as carbon fibre stuff which looks awesome and is cheaper to set up then the cheap apparition and they say its a stronger hull

Yup your stock motor mounts are 19mm... ARC's are the only 540 motor's I know off with the 19mm - 25mm spacing.

These are the motors I run in the stock mounts. Took about 30ms off work with a dremal to get them to fit correctly. Once you get the 25mm spacing to work, sky is the limit on motor selection.

If your just gonna get the bare hull from Ben then the motor mounts he has will work and with 25mm spacing. I thought you where looking at a Apparition hull from HOR or from HK. Starting bare is better.

i was lookin at the apparition till i seen this lol it looks alot better plus its cheaper to set up than the apparition and you can get carbon fibre bits for it and the hardware looks better but im just unsure about the outrunners and escs but i guess he wouldnt sell garbage he seems legit cheers.

Ben can set you up with everything you need from a hull to a complete running boat minus batteries.Great guy to deal with and very helpful. His prices are very reasonable.Ive bought several things from him and will continue to in the future.I also run the Arc motors in my 32" cat.Ive only run it one time, but she moved good.I think I can probably hit 70 without too much effort.Arc's warranty is second to none too.

I have the 36-55-1 I believe. They are 2800kv.Its a pretty hot 4s set up.If you dont want to go so fast and possibly heat things up,Id get a lesser kv somewhere like 2200-2600kv.I use 120 amp esc's with mine.

We were talkingon the other Forum, I'm BACKEMF.

I also have a 36 65-1 for sale, just one used twice. I had a couple people kick tires, maybe one will buy tomorrow...

Anyway, even though ARC's are great motors, they are expensive relatively speaking compared to outrunners or Leopards.

I'm not sure who but, one forum member used the Turnigy Typhoon 500 motors in a twin cat like yours and was very impressed with the speeds and used no motor cooling. I think it was an apparition cat, maybe Jeff Wholt or Raydee?? Memory fails me...
