Well, now that the boat is here I realized that yes, the stock motor really does needs to be thrown out. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a cheap motor/prop to start with? I want to run it on 6S. Thanks for all the help guys. I am scared to death this newbie is going to burn his new boat to the ground the first time out....

Proven motor on 6s with 180amp speedo is an Arc 36x75-1 1680kv using an X442. Cool temps on everything. This ran 64mph. Here's a link:

I would poo my pants if this thing went anywhere near 64mph!

Well, crap away, man. You'll want the speed before too long. Might as well give her hell now instead of spending twice on motors.

A few guys running the Feigao 9xl on 5s and getting high 50's with good temps. I myself had a Feigao 10xl in my apparition for 3 runs on 6s and hit 61.3mph. The Feigao 10xl would be an excellent choice for 5s and get you mid 50's running nice and cool and not breaking the bank too hard, and you would have the option to run it on 6s for short speed runs when you desire that need for speed!!

PS. your buddies will be upgrading there Spartan motors and esc before long if they start running 6s lipo!!!
keep your eye on the swap shop on here, lots of good deals on motors pop up

Yea, I guess I have already gone this far and waited this long. The only batteries I have are the two 3S Turnigys so I can only do 3S or 6S. Looks like I have a little more time anyways. Good call 6sHyper! One of the Spartans was looking strong on 6S.....for about 2 minuets. Now that boat is having to get a new motor AND esc at the same time. The other Spartan has lipos and good esc but has not run it yet because of the problems with the other one.

I'd look into the Arc's. Much more efficient than Feigao's. You would be hard pressed to find a better motor for the price. The warranty is great and they can take a heck of a beating. Very well worth the money.

Thanks Larry! That is a little more than I was wanting to spend but if it will work with my setup and do 60+mph all while staying cool I might just have to pull the trigger on that one! I have been looking into outrunners also. I have seen several good running boats using outrunners and I love the price, look, and sound of them. Haha wow, I opened up a whole new can of worms when I decided to get into boats!

yeah the outrunners are decent, but i dont see anybody pulling big speeds with them, but they are cheap. BTW i have a Feigao 10xl with cooling jacket in the swap shop right now, $60 shipped used 3 times and hit 61.3 w/x442 prop in my apparition, and hottest it got was 130f.

Hi can you help me im very new to this but very keen to learn,

I purchased a New Apparition twin hull Catamaran 2 days ago I am using 1620KV WATERCOOLED BRUSHLESS MOTOR which came with the boat,

                        I am also using a

Turnigy 180 AMP Water-cooled Electronic Speed Controller.
                        2 X 11.1 Volt 40C LIPO BATTERIES (2650mah) & series link lead for 22.2 VOLTS.
                        2.4 Ghz WATERPROOFED radio equipment.

I Took it out for the first time today and blow the motor up after 5 min, it completely seized up smoke and everything not sure why! The water cooling system was working fine a wasn’t blocked,

I now need to replace the motor and not sure what to get,

I wanted to increase my batterys to 35c (5000mah) to give me a longer running time but im worried about this now as I was only running it for 5min..

Overall im looking for performance with a balance between speed and run time can anyone help me with my setup and what I need to do,

                        Thanks very much..

Its just a cheap motor and cant handle that kind of RPM at load. As earlier stated in this thread that motor is only rated for 5s max and you ran it on 6s.

Check out the Leopard 4074 in the OSE store. I think they make one in a 1500kv version, which would be great for your application.

The 2650mah batteries you were running are very small. Im surprised it ran for 5 minutes. You are doing the right thing getting larger batteries.

Something you need to look at on the Apparition is going to one of these larger more powerfull motors like the Leopard 40 series is you probably have to fit a new motor mount as the bigger size motor + water jacket wont go on the stock mount. I also believe the boat only comes with a 4mm flex, That going to have to be replaced with a 3/16"flex. A 4mm just wont take the extra power. Martin.
