    Top speed: cats vs hydros...

Just wondering what can handle more speed, a cat or hydro? I like the look of both and I think I might jump into my first boat that is a little closer to running than my bare mono hull. I have been looking at the HK Sea Fire and Apparition(single drive) as somthing to get going ASAP. I know they would both need some work to be fast but I am just wanting something that I can work with for a little while untill I can learn the know how to build a fast boat from scratch. Thanks for any help!

Remember hydros are only good at turning right. So if you want to turn both ways..cats are the way to go........

Hydros have a turn fin on them on the right side and will turn very sharply in that direction...attempted sharp turns to the left can result in a flipped boat.

Top speed can depend on your conditions you run in....calm and flat...hydros..cats will take the chop better. As for speed...anything can be made to go fast.....my suggestion would be the Miss Geico from Proboat for a cat...and the UL -1 for hydros from Aquacraft...the HK stuff have poor track records for the electronics. Aquacraft has a cat coming out in a few months as well.

Yea, I would guess the HK stuff would not be top of the line but I would not mind changing out electronics and props. I guess what I am asking is what would be the best boat that is not crazy $$$, good for top speed, can tweak, add motor, prop, esc, and batterys to make it faster? Just trying to get a strong running boat without spending more than I have to to start with....

geico is a awesome boat right outta da box, good set up to run on and plenty of room to play with, if you do go that route, get the rudder relocate kit fro kentic racing, gets rid of the wahh wahh wahh bounce, the boat produces some unwanted prop wash that lifts the rear at higher speeds, i own a geico and is a great boat to play with and handles fantastic, just my two cents
