    low and mid lift props

    what is the differance between a low lift prop say a octrua m447 and a mid lift prop say a x447. what effect will the two lifts have on a deep vee boat?

    the M series have its tunge cut off so to speak ( or so im told anyways)
    should give you more top end speed but less axseleration ( again. so im told)
    im shure that one of the gurues wil come in and correct me if im wrong :D

      The x447 is still a low lift prop. I would not expect to see much difference in lift between the m447 and x447, the thrust cones are virtually the same, the difference being the blade entry into the water. The blade area difference shouldn't be too noticeable in the lifting characteristics.

      The highest lift Octura props are the 1700 series. Between the two would be the 1200 and 1400 series, which are not appropriate for non-hydros without de-lifting. With modifications - the most effective being cupping of the leading edge near the tips to narrow the thrust cone - much to most of the lift can be taken out of any prop.

        Yes the X series are low lift props and the M's are just modded x series ,the big misconception is people think when you talk about lift ,it is about the bow, it is not it's about lifting the transom, ( back of the boat )and this would puts the bow in. Years ago riggers use solid shafts with fixed drive angles and you needed a hi lifting prop there were also other boat that needed lifting props todays boats are designed to need minimal lift
