Question re: stuffing tube and stinger installation

I have three stock sv27's and all three of them have a one-piece stuffing tube that runs from the motor shaft right through to the end of the stringer/strut --- not sure of the difference between the two terms. Hoping someone can enlighten me. Anyway, the set up makes it all but impossible to adjust the strut angle as described in the manual.

I am wondering about cutting the tube off flush at the transom and using the remainder as a bushing insert in the stinger/strut itself. I would add a small flair at the output end of the bushing.

    Then I noticed this

It is listed on a couple of websites that carry Aquacraft parts and wondered if the separate bushing was an upgrade of the original design.

Would appreciate any information/insight on the matter.

    Thanks

Ya, I would cut the stuffing tube at the exit point of the transom, and as you mentioned, use it as a bushing in your stinger style strut. You can dremel some grooves or holes in it for more lube, but you should be fine with that. DONT cut your stuffing liner there though, I wouldn't change that at all. You don't need to buy a new bushing as you have one you are cutting!

Thanks. As far as the liner is concerned, there was only about 2 inches of it in the most recent tube I removed. I know because the stuffing tube was seized in the stinger and I had to apply a little heat to remove it. When I did cut the tube to length I discovered the teflon liner and noted that it was damaged, probably from the heat.

I posted a response to this on the aquacraft topic thread too.
