    Rx/tx opinions

Started building my twin... was thinking about going with the 3 channel traxxas system since you can get them for 50$ shipped brand new all day... then eventually maybe a spektrum... Sounds ok or is traxxas a bad choice?

Also, was thinking about using the waterproof 2075 steering servo from a summit for the rudder...

I personally never cared for the Traxxas radio's. I like the Tactic's... I use a Tactic and DX3S for all my boats. What size boat will it be? That will help determine if the servo is up to par.

        Traxxas Radio

I have used the Traxxas 2 channel and 4 channel radio 2.4 in all of my boats. When I get a new boat I just purchase a new receiver to put in it. They are simple and bulletproof. Batteries last a long time and they have excellent reception distance. The newer radios have a few more features and I would not hesitate to recommend them. The servos are very good also.

Do not get me wrong, but you get for what you pay for. The cheaper radios use pot controls which are a pain in the arse.

Good point... I love my Spektrum, and the model memory is a huge added bonus. The tactic is a GREAT value though. The rx's are very cheap, easily water-proofed great range and the radio feels light and comfortable. Tough to beat for their price.

ideally id like to go with a dx3r, and take advantage of the telemetry functions...... But for now, looking for budget options so i can keep focused on the boat... i guess my main thing was i have a t-maxx with the FM transmitter and was going to throw the 2.4 on it when i yanked it out of the boat..

Boats going to be a genesis hull...

The DX3s is cheaper then the 3r and also has telemetry. Note that the only telemetry rx's are not really for boating and have a very VERY short antenna. You can make it work though. I only run 1 telemetry rx in my boats and that's in a miss Geico and took a bit work to get it in the hull properly so the antenna could stick out of the hull. The DX3s with a MR200 rx is a nice setup. I run the mr200s and the mr3000 in my boats. Mostly the 200s though because of their price.

You can get the DX3s package which is what i got, but the short antenna reall makes things tough to position the rx to get the antenna out the hull.

I'm guessing i could program this remote (dx3s) to work with the factory spectrum in my geico?

                        I did.
The Miss Geico either comes with a MR3000 or MR200 RX, both are compatiable with the DX3s.

I like the Tactic for sport running. Plop your boat in, set your trims, & have fun. For racing ( I have a race coming up in which I have five boats entered in five separate classes) I need my trims perfectly dialed in for each boat ; the Tactic's one big downside is no model memory. I have a Futaba rigged in two boats, but an extra Rx is 88 bucks. I just ordered this , it has model memory:

                          http://www.hobbypartz.com/79p-gt3b-carradio-lcd.html.

                          Radio : $ 35.00

                          Rx's : $ 7.40

                          Shipping : FREE

With tax ( I live in CA ; so's Hobbypartz)

                          Total : $ 62.78 for 1 Tx & 4 Rx's

This appears to be a rebranded Eargle that R2 sells ; Questtek Joe uses it and I've tried it and it looks good.
