motor selection for 20" twin cat

    Its actually more like 24"...

I got this Key West cat from Ben (Meniscus) and am getting ready to see about puttin her together. I picked up a pair of 30 A tenshock ESCs recently and now am thinking about the motors.

I think 380 size should be plenty (especially in parallel), and was looking at this motor from HK.

If there are better motors for similar price, I would like to see what you think.

Also, for props - Octura X430 L/R or the KOS props 32mm 3 blade?

I am looking for power that will push this hull to its limits.

    2171 - Graupner Key West
    Length : 619 mm
    Width : 225 mm

That motor on 3S would be a rocket on your proposed setup. The only thing that concerns me is the price of that motor, your choice of Octura props looks good...what do you think lads?......chime in and help Jesse.

The venting holes may limit your water jacket/cooling ability. Here's an option:

            Price being too much?

I wanna get the power figured out before dropping a bunch of dough on motors. Once I get her together and test out, I should be at my new job making gobs of cash.... until then, we go cheap.

True, might be able to cover vents, but I think they would help cool - could use the shorter can cooler? Your suggestion is another good option - any experience with it?

Havent used those..............they have a 3.17mm shaft which may help if you are using smaller coupler/driveline hardware.

These 4 pole Leopards would be sweet. They make a 2730kv 28x60!

This may be the 4 poler here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Leopard-2860-2...-/260724963513

I will have to take a look at the room I will have inside, but I am thinking smaller diameter might be required.

Ben is suggesting lower KV.... maybe for 4S - 2200KV then? and maybe the KOS screws? He said the motors I linked in were not very efficient and not that good. I will look at the Leopards and any other idea you guys have. (I haven't done much stuff this small).

How about the minicat hydro motors?

I am using a pair of these in 5050Kv each 2s2p per side in a 26" Drifter S

They also have them in 2550 Kv for $46 each, free shipping in USA and you can look for cupons online for another 10% off.

Great 4 pole motors, same as leopard...

i have one of those hulls it was my first electric.I looked around on the internet and see some guys ran some pretty hot brushless motors in it they say the problem is the boat was only designed for about 25 mph.One trick is you have to file of the hooks on the bottom of the sponsons.I didn't know if you already new about that Jesse I know you have built some scratch built cats already. It was a fun boat to drive i was thinking of putting something in mine to use as a rescue boat.
