    Electic Motors

I know there are a ton of different motors out there. Currently I have the stock bj motor, and an ammo 36-50 2300. Outside of these, I don't know much about the other brands an sizes that are available. Is there somewhere I can get a better understanding of what the different numbers mean with different brands, and the type of applications for different motors. I know what the numbers on the ammo mean, so what I am after is more along the lines of what the numbers on the Fiegao, Neu, ect. mean.

With Feigao's I use the kvm rating/rpm per volt. With them I calculate 24 to 26 thousand rpms for sport running. Same with ammo, hackers ect. As for size S motors afr for smaller boats 20" and under L 20 to 25 and XL 25+. This isen't exact but puts you on the right track. Neu I am still learning myself. There are guys here that can direct you to threads with that info.

        36-50 2300, your motor must be close to a Feigao 5408415S or 54016S, 36mm dia., 50mm long 2300rpm/V
in the Feigao range we use in FE boats you'll find S, L and XL series witch are 3 different size of can, 50, 60 and 74mm long respectively 54084xxS, 54084xxL and 54084xxXL, the xx is the number of turns, higher number of turns give lower rpm/V and lower max amp rating
beside of this, if you want some good basics look at this thread http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...read.php?t=271 there are some info on appropriate motor type according to hull size

So if want to swing a larger prop at the same rpm, I should pick a motor that is slightly longer, (which should have more tq), and have the same kv rating? Atleast that is one way I could do it.

yep! the other way would be to drain more amp!

A very difficult question. Comparing a Neu against a Fieagao on numbers is not plausible. A motor may not be your answer to speed/handling requirements. What do you wish and what is your hull/motor/esc/prop/power now?

My initial intent with this post wasn't so much to compare motor agains motor, as it was for me to get an understanding of what the specs are for some of the different motors, and a better understanding of the proper aplication for the different motors.

                With that said
the hull is a black jack.
current setup is ammo 36-50-2300, hydra 120, with trinity 4200 6 cells or tenergy 7 cell 4200.
With the trinity batteries and a x642 the boat ran 37.3 on gps.
with the same set up and the stock proboat prop, the boat ran 36.2

With the stock motor, trinity batteries, and the x642 the boat ran 36.0

I would like to run 50+ with this hull, though I am probably just going to pick up a better hull to work with. If I do that, my goal will be 55-60 mph so I can mess with the gas boats at the local pond. Plus I have to out run my buddy's SV.

obrien...IMO, the hull is a handful at 40MPH. Mine is pretty much stock. Stock motor, ESC, I run lipos, nice lipos and a 642 prop. It does'nt turn, thats for sure. She flips real easy. In the straights, it's pretty flat. The hull does ride well, but it feels a bit on edge. I guestimate that after around 50MPH you are gonna have blow overs on a regular basis. And what fun is wrecking a boat, not to mention a expensive one.

If it was me, and I wanted to do it on the cheap, I would use a Feiago 8-9xl on 12 cells. Small prop, that thing should just about be at it's limits. Go for it! Should be cool!

Sorry I can't help more with the understanding of how to rate motors. I know feiago's a little, thats about it cause those and the SV and BJ motors is all I run.

                  Good luck man!!!!!

Also, try a 645 on that stock BJ motor. Mine is like 85-90F same for the ESC after a full run on a 642 so I would think maybe a 645 would not be out of the question.

Thanks for some more info. I have been running a 642 for now. I have a 645, as well as several other props to try now. I have only balanced my 642 and 645. /They probably need a bit more work. I have a borrowed 937/3 to try. If I can get this data logger to work, I plan to get some info on what kind of loads are on the system, as well as play with the settings on my esc.

As far as going much faster, I wanted to get the blackjack in the 45-50 range, and then I will probably go after a bigger better hull.
