    LSH Hydros

    Hey gents,

Not that I can do it anytime soon, which is why Im not puting this in the WTB section, Im looking for info on Hydros. Im not a hydro fan, but the looks of them is growing on me, Im more of a scale offshore person, but watching LSH run at the local club is becoming quite exciting. Ive noticed some run much more stable down the straights than others. Ive seen one UL-1 run fantastic and another thats chine walking like crazy all the time. I dont seem to see near as much info on the PB hydro vs the Aquacraft. How does it compare? And what are some other suggestions that may be more competitive and handle better, ie DF Vortex 24 etc.

Just trying to get some ideas and start planning ahead so when Im ready to pull the trigger I can do so immediately.

    Thanks,
    Scott

Kind of depends on how serious you want to be, LSH/ spec Hydro class is the largest FE class in the in the country and probably the most competative. In MO its the most fun. I have raced many many hulls and personaly I would not choose either the PB or AQ. Of all the boats I have seen raced I think you would be better off in the long run If you went with one of the racing hulls that are out. In my mind the best performing hull choices are The Whiplash 20, Phil Thomas Stealth and the Insane FE 30. They all perform equally well and are Fantastic running the UL-1 power systems. With a little build time you would have a far superior boat above the RTR choices.

Couldn't agree more. Rod is right on the money.

Those are the three best choices. The next question is how much work you want to do.

If you like to build, go with the whiplash kit. It's still my favorite.

The PT Stealth is great if you want glass and don't mind doing the finsh/paint work. It's epoxy glass, so it's tough and light.

If you want RTR finish with performance, go FE 30. Vinyl/Poly resin construction isn't as tough as epoxy, but it's pretty right out of the mold.

I'm building a new Whiplash with all the mods.

Sponson depth, AOA and dihedral. Recovery block mod. Some internal structure mods to make things fit a bit better.

I've increased the sponson depth and added a 1/8" strip to the inside of the sponsons. I might trim off the recovery blocks too. I am making these mods because I have seen them work on other peoples whip's but, how do you think up thinks like AOA & Dihedral???? Jeepers!

Sounds great! What motor do you like best for LSH Brian?

Tune and observe. The closer you watch, the more you learn. Have someone else drive the boat. Get down close to water level and have them make passes so you can see what's going on under the boat.

Motor wise: In a small/light boat, run the UL-1 motor. In a large/heavy hull, run the SV27R or 1800 kV proboat motors.

All great info guys. keep whatever else you may have coming. I wass just talking to a member yeterday how Id like to build a kit boat, but finding the time to do that right now w/ my 20 other projects going on, Ill probably just be buying a hull for now. Im not looking into full blown out, traveling all over the place racing, but I would like to have fun w/ it a the local club races, be competitive and have a good running hull.

                      Scott,
Highndry, sailr, hebner all run the whiplash. Great boat! I think Ray had one but retired it. Not sure what he's got now. The INSANE hydro looks great but pretty pricey. The Whiplash kit is only $100 but you gotta build it. There are a couple of guys on here that build great. Talk to Highndry about it.

Cool Jim, thanks. That was going to be my next question in our club forum as to what the "others without the UL-1" were running.

We're all running Whips. Racer504 has one he just finished with the latest and greatest sponson mods. He built mine and is a great builder. Apparently the new mods chop a little more from the sponson to allow less sticking

Not sure what he wants for it, but I think 250 unpainted. That is an awesome deal for a very competitive hull. AS I recall he consulted with Blazer on the new mods but dont hold me to that.

250 is just for the hull correct?
