Brushless motor recommendation

Hello people, Im new in this forum as in RC boats.
I just purchased the new SPARTAN boat form TRAXXAS less than a week ago and, of course, Im having the overheating issue with the motor.
I have talked with TRAXXAS support and have no response from them to solve the issue, and I am a little complicated with the warranty due Im located in Argentina.

What Im trying to do its to increase the water pickup and water flow on the boat. I already bought a lot of stuff for this in OSE site.

What Im needing for you guys, its a recommendation for a new brushless motor for this boat. I would like to reach the 50mph that the box states but I do not know what kind of motor do I need. I think that the best option would be the LEOPARD 4082 1250KVs or should I increase the number of KV for the motor such as a 2000 KV motors? Will use it with 6s LIPO batteries

My second concern is, does anyone know if the new motor, for example the LEOPARD 4082, will work with my actual ESC that brings the SPARTAN boat? It is the VELINEON VXL 6S MARINE ESC

A few here have suggested a larger motor for high speed. I have thrown out the 4 pole 3674 leopard for those who want cooler running and more prop as a drop in replacement, which should get close to the 50 mark and be a much more trouble free setup.

However, having said that, myself and others have suggested a 40 size leopard to get up into the 50's with cooler temps.

That CC motor is not possible, cause it only ships to USA and Im in Argentina, but thank you anyway.

Well I will follow your recommendations and will be buying today the TURNIGY ESC and the Leopard motor for my new CRAP spartan (craptan boat)

I think enough is enough with this Spartan over heating issues, Theirs been so much debate on various forums on this very serious issue & it seems no responce what so ever from Traxxas even to customers that have bought the boat & expressed concerns. I hope this comes back to bite Traxxas hard for the non responce to customers that spent their hard earned money on this sub standard boat that simply dosnt deliver on their claims of speed & run times on 6s. At least some sort of reasurance from Traxxas that their looking into things & working on a solution to fix things would probably go a long way especially to those who have already bought this boat or to potential buyers to which i wont be one any more. Come on Traxxas you had a lot to say about this boat before its release why so quite now. Thanks Martin.

Do you know what is my major concern about TRAXXAS and the SPARTAN boat, I have paid for this boat 800 dollaras here in my country. Do you realize abouth this number? And I had no response from TRAXXAS support. I spent almost 1/4 of my monthly salary!
Thats someting that made me to ot trust any more in this company. I was proud of buying so great products such as EREVO or MINI REVO; but not I feel shame of them

Hello,

Our Lab manager said this.

A lot of the boats we have seen that have heat issues are running with dry flex shafts. If he has tried moving the water jacket, increasing the intake size, rerouting the water lines and it still overheats I would suggest a liberal application of flex shaft oil.

Here are some other things to check.

There are two unique "over temp" modes with the 5708 Spartan. These are listed in the Owner's Manual. http://www.traxxas.com/pdfs/5708_manual.pdf

Here are some guidelines specific to this model. These assume that the transmitter and receiver are functioning normally (steering and throttle are working).

Most likely issues to troubleshoot are here, in order:
1. ESC in LiPo cut-off
a. ESC is solid green in neutral at start of run (after system is powered up and initialized).
b. ESC will blink red (slow blink) to indicate low-voltage detection.
c. Power is reduced to 25%. This is very slow. Return to shore and unplug to avoid LiPo damage.
2. Motor overtemp - this is unique to this model.
a. ESC will not show any blinking. Will be either solid green (LiPo mode) or solid red (NiMh mode) in neutral
b. RX will have fast red blink.
c. Steering will still function normally.
d. Throttle will be reduced to about 33%. Boat will continue to drive normally, just slower.
e. If the boat is unplugged and motor allowed to cool, it will function normally again.
f. Possible causes:
i. Lack of water flow
1. Pinched or disconnected water line
2. Poor flow through rudder due to clog/debris
3. Check for clear flow (disconnect and blow through lines and rudder)
4. Defective rudder
ii. Flex cable and stuffing tube need to be oiled (or there is damage from lack of lubrication)
1. Loud squeal noise is from lack of lubrication. This happens abruptly during a run if the normal flex shaft lubrication is not done per the specified intervals in the manual.
2. Continued running will damage the flex tube and liner and these require replacement.
3. If noise is noticed, return to shore, unplug batteries, and lube flex cable per instructions.
iii. Location of water jacket on motor in incorrect
1. Should be centered on motor
iv. Strut angle is excessive (binding flex shaft)
v. Defective motor
1. If none of the above issues exist, then the motor may be defective. Suggest returning motor for test/replacement.
3. Throttle pulsing during WOT.

a. ESC issue. Return ESC for service.

4. ESC thermal. LED on ESC will blink.
a. This is VERY uncommon for this model. Issue is likely one of the 1st two items above.
b. Typically, the motor will hit overtemp or the ESC is in low-voltage detection
There is no recall on the boats. Our Engineers are looking into the reported issues but right now there is no official statement about them.

Thanks Traxxas for sorting the problems with the Spartan, Thats reasured me no end. I can now go & order one with confidence, NOT on your life. I suppose they could add a free bottle of oil with the boat & your over heat problems will be solved or you could save a lot of money & hassle & simply buy some thing else. Thanks Martin.
