    Timing Feigao 10xl T-180esc apparition

Hey guys, well i just took my apparition out for the first time earlier today and for the first run it was ok since nothing broke! I'm running a Feigao 10xl 1664kv motor with a T-180 esc on 6s by way of 2x 3s 30c 5000mah with an m440 prop. First off i know i'm puching boundaries with this many RPM, but i dont plan on running it wide open throttle for long periods of time, and keep in mind up here in Canada our water is damn cold right now, and seems temps are staying pretty cool since.

Ok to the point, i put it in the water and hit the throttle and wow she launches out of the hole!! I mean she will flip right over backwards if i wap it. I slowly eased on the throttle and she goes like the wind, definately bouncing all over the place and i think i need to move my batteries further forward, so i'm working on that right now. The LVC kicked in real quick and have heard thats an issue with teh t180 so i disabled it and have an external monitor that sounds an alarm when i drop below 3.0v so i'm safe. Checked temps and didn't even go above 80f but then again i never had very long runs.

What i would like to know is what i should set the timing to on my ESC??? Any help would be greatly appreciated and i repsect any opinions if you think i should try something else, thanks.

On the Feigao's 7.5 degree should do you good. Run more open throttle then half throttle. Believe it or not running wide open throttle as much as possible is less work for the esc! Half throttle can kill a FE setup and heat the esc up fast. Also dis-able the bec on that 180 and run a external receiver pack, will help prolong the life of your esc!

I run just a seperate rechargable nimh receiver pack from Tower, but if you want a external bec Jan sells a High Voltage external Bec. http://kintecracing.com/Electrical.html scroll down it's called "Very High Voltage Bec" lol, I have also run the castle bec on 4s but nothing higher, I won't try it either. http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...le-bec&cat=136

you can also run the receiver on its' own battery as well.

I would also change those connectors over to the bullet style. those look like a spade style
in your picture to me. JMO

              Thanks

I run ALL my boats on a seperate reciever battery pack... 6.0 Volt rxr pack works great and lasts a long time... I keep a couple with me at all times... and a back up 4 cell AA rxr pack for backup.. just in case somehow my rechargeable batts end up being used up...

They are Traxxas plugs I think he's running, They should handle the current draw fine. Anything is better then deans...

yeah I have traxxas high current connectors on my batts and 6mm bullets on my motor/esc, never had a problem with the traxxas connectors before, they handle pretty high current.

Ok so forget the external bec, thats a waste of money, i have some 6v rx packs, so if i just cut the middle wire out of the esc reciever plug and then run a seperate 6v pack to the reciever i'm good to go?? thanks

                      DON'T CUT IT....

use a small jewel size flat head screw driver and lift up the small plastic lock tab on esc receiver plug and slide the red wire out. That way it can be easily re-installed if you ever need to. I just place a small piece of heat shrink on the end of it and zip tie it back.

Ok thanks for the replies, really appreciate it. While i'm at it has anyone placed the batts further forward on the apparition before?? what other ways are there to keep the nose stable? I'm hoping to get the boat back out tomorrow morning if weather is ok, i'll try and get a video, see how she goes, i just finished soldering my connectors on my watts metter power analyzer so i can check on those numbers, although not too sure what i'm actually looking for, hahaha, still a newbie to these boats, but damn there fun!

Amp load is the big one. I am not familar with the watts metter, but if it can check amp pull that's a good thing to check.

Do a search of HOR, HOTR, or Head of the river 32" cats and all the info you need should be in their. Check the building section many of these have been built. I have the same hull you have but with twins. Haven't ran it yet though. Center of Gravity should be 28-30% on most setups. I think without the hardware standoff that hull is 31.5 (from memory i think that's right) meaning balance point should be about 9.5" (roundoff) measured from the aft point of the sponson (not the standoff) forward. Move the batteries around so the boat balances at that point.

trying to avoid that max, i set my timing to 7.5, positioned my batteries slightly more forward, and i installed a seperate battery pack for the rx, weather is kinda crappy out but think i'm gonna go for a rip anyways, will report back, maybe with a video.
