Hi all, let me introduce myself. I’m Chop – figured I would use that ‘cause things here are not always smooth! And not always liquid here in east central Wisconsin (I’m in Menasha – about 30 miles SW of Green Bay). At 18 degrees yesterday, the water is getting pretty hard.
I could not post a response on this forum when I first registered (what??? A 48 hour cooling off period?), so I PM’ed a few people with some of what follows:
I don’t know much about any kind of fast electric boats. I have wasted a lot of money on slow electric boats that have been described as “fast” – you know the typical Wally world types. They are even bad to pass down to my 10 year old son. But they might make good turn buoy’s.
My background is in Mechanical Design (Engineering) – especially pumps and piping. I have watched this forum off and on for the past couple of months and like what I see from you guys (of course you never know when you see it on-line).
Some hobbies/other activities I participate in:
1) Bicycling, which is pretty self explanatory. I take a 1 week vacation every year and ride my bike across Iowa (RAGBRAI).
2) Geocaching, from the geocaching.com website: Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for GPS users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a GPS unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches (small waterproof containers – matchstick holders to ammo cans) all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards (trinkets, McDonald’s happy meal toys etc.). All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache (I use souvenir poker chips I got in Vegas). To make this long explanation short: I use multi million dollar military satellites to find Tupperware hidden in the woods.
3) Pyro, you know, the fireworks shows you see on the forth of July? I help set up and shoot those shows. I also go to a week long convention every summer.
4) Weather Spotting, when the weather gets bad, I go out and watch the storms and report back to the National Weather Service. Our amateur radio club does this as a public service (my ham call sign: K9KEG).
Because of those other interests, I don’t have a lot to spend on my first real boat (but I owe myself a Christmas present). My first real interest in boats would be something like the CEN Racing Aqua Jet 775. Remember that I am starting from scratch: I need batteries, charger, RC to go with the boat. I would also probably purchase an extra set of batteries and from what I can glean from these forums, some kind of cooling jacket for the motor. I decided on the Aqua Jet because it seems to offer more versatility than some others – I (am led to) understand that is runs good on both flat water and water with some wave action. If I add it all up, I am going to pay about $300 + shipping. As I look at the Swap Shop part of the forum I see that some of you sometimes have a RTR set-up that might fit my needs just as well. Boating conditions here include: rivers and ponds that are usually smooth, and an 188,000 acre lake that gets some pretty big waves on it.
Any how, I am here to get information and maybe get into a new hobby – let me have it!There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."Comment

Welcome pull up a seat and sit a spell!
You're right most of the guys are real nice guys! Very helpful & knowledgeable!
My son & i are new to this hobby 7 months or so and our fleet has grown to 5 boats: a traxxas villian, 2 supervees, 1 mono hull with neu motor(1515.1d) & the 29 in Mean Machine Cat that we are just finishing up!
We also have a Hydro & Marine Hull(36") on order to build a Maritimo Offshore Cat later this winter!
While building our first cat(see Here kitty kitty kitty) these guys were indispensible with the info they so willing gave up!
Now for your question --- I think for around $300.00 you should consider either Aquacrafts Supervee or Proboats Blackjack BL 26! Both come ready to run just need batteries and charger! First time out buy new!
These are difinitely what we consider Fast Electrics --- 30+ out of the box .... some say approaching 40 with a little tweaking!
So now get out of the seat you sat down in and get busy --- There's a boat out there with your name on it!
PS.... I don't know much about the Cen Jet but when i was inquiring before getting into this I was lead to believe they weren't as fast as the other two! But like I said don't know & have never seen anyone with one to see its speed!Last edited by Eodman; 11-28-2007, 12:06 PM.We did it with a Bang!

stability is all in the setup, slide the batteries fwd and the sv is rock solid. my opinion would be get the biggest boat you can afford, for big water. The Manx has been sitting dormant, but I think I finally have my motivation back. I hope to see it float soon.Comment
