Dumas Hotshot 45: is it a good boat?

    Hi guys

I have the possibility of buying a NIB Dumas Hotshot tunnel kit (designed by Jerry Dunlap). It is 35 inches long.

I know its an old design fo nitro., but I really like the retro look.

Is it a good boat for FE? Won't be racing but more bashing around. If the boat get on a plane I'll be a happy man.....

I have never built a wood boat but have built several fibreglass one......

What are you opinion on the Hotshot? Would it be too heavy? Would be be a big challenge for a newby with wood like me?

    Thanks

    You're not attending the world's ??

    Hi Mate ,

Go ahead & buy that Dumas Hotshot i reckon , i like the retro look aswell such as the " ATLAS VAN LINES " raceboat . There will be a motor such as Fiegao 10xl ( as i have advised for my project ) on 4S that will provide enough torque to make it quite fast & if you're not going to attend U.S or World Championships then i think having a boat that is not to your exact liking just because it is the latest & greatest thing is an unrealistic approach to the hobby of R/C Boating when such boats as the Dumas Hotshot may have won National championships in the past & be only behind the eight ball by 10% once set up to race .

All the best in F/E Boating ,

They are rather heavy. I got one that I am looking to part with built. I bought it and Ive since decided that a tunnel hull just isnt for me.

If interested make an offer. I would rather buy/build a Genesis.

if you do build the boat lighten it up as much as possible. Making holes in the center portions of the sponson bulkheads ect.
Build the building jig for it so you will have a straight and true hull.
Use the superglue sparingly as well as the epoxy. (the epoxy adds a lot of weight)
Think about how you want to do up the radio box and such. (it is, after all a nitro boat you are converting)

They were great boats in their day and you rally can't go wrong if you build it straight, light and solid.

Currently i am saving for my wedding , while my beautiful fianc'e let's me tinkle with my current project , your Hotshot should be snapped up though by somebody looking for a good base to start their tunnelling career ( LOL ) . The Dumas tunnel kit that is open cockpit is a sweet looking retro rocket , i would like to put a kit together at some stage ...

            Thanks guys

The one for sale is exactly the one on the black and white picture.

It is such a gorgeous boat and a timeless classic

There seems to be an emphasis on having current world class hulls etc , though how many of us compete at any level warranting them . We need to remember at the end of the day it is a hobby & not the real thing , so a level of fun over tech needs to be reinvigerated into the scene i reckon ...
