    Brushless O.B getting wet?

Hi all im running a Feigo 9xl brushless motor on top of my R.E.K lower unit as a outboard i have flipped the boat several times having the motor submerged i use compressed air to blow all the water out where the 3 motor wires exit let it dry and re-oil the bearings having this has happen on more than a few times .Would this eventually degrade the performance of a brushless motor? Regards Andris Golts.

Yes it will eventually cause damage since you cannot blow out all the water. Instead or using air, I'd flood the interior of the motor with a product like CorrosionX or even WD-40 to displace out the water. These products would be much more effective than just air and the CorrosionX would leave a protective coating inside the motor for the "next time".

I guess it depends what you use and on what but I have destroyed 2 motors while cleaning the water out.

Both broke when the windings seperated from can/the glue that holds the winds lost grip.

first time this happened to sv motor after I dunked it in denat.alchohol, second(also sv motor) did the same after I cleaned it using CRC or wd40(cant remember)

And next outing after the cleaning....-motors broke.

I guess that better made motors can widthstand chemicals better.

But after these I have used only compressed air and taking the motors apart and cleaning every bit seperatly with a rag that has wd40 on it -but not too much.

Bearings I used to clean with brake cleaner and then spray gun oil and everything is nice! (now I lube the bearings with avid bearing oil, nice stuff)

Just a small squirt of corrosionX will do it. Not that big a deal for em to get wet!

Any oil/solvent that dissolves the insulation coating the motor windings will result in a short, destroying the motor & possibly the ESC.

CorrosionX will not hurt the insulation, etc. NEVER use WD40 or equivalent.

Why do you say ,not to use wd40.

WD40 os known to deteriorate some plastics, vinyls, electronics, etc.

                      Try here: http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...hp?prod=corr-x

I've used WD-40 to dry out BL motors for years with zero problems (sensorless BL motors are not "electronics"), but today I use Corrosion-X.

I flood the motors a couple of times with Metho (Denaturate Alchohol) a shake it out after a few seconds.

Motors are fine after 3-4 years of getting wet on outboards

Hey Kris...after cleaning with denatured alcohol (or CorrosionX) how long do you typically let the motors dry out before you run them again...let's just say on warmer days?

Hey Kent, a couple of minute I guess, I just run them and do a good clean at the end of the day.

I also find that with my adaptors, when I oil the flex the oil gets up into the front bearing (close to coupler) and wicks its way up to the top beaings, so it self lubes
