    Lipo Storage for the winter?

Whats the best way to store lipos for the winter?

Or should they be discharged and charged periodically?

If so whats the best way to discharge the packs?
My charger has a discharge feature but only at 1 amp. And that seems to take 3 hours to discharge a pack its ridiculous. Especially when you have several packs you want to do this to. I have tried to use 12v car light bulbs for like your turn signals those kind. And they seem to do ok. But i have to monitor the pack voltage either with my multimeter or a lvc alarm that plugs into the balance lead.

I'd like to know whats best or what other constructive ideas others have come up with. Or if I can just charge and store no problem? I have heard that its not good to let them sit. So i'd like to know more.

    thanks

I'm with you! I got frustrated trying to discharge with a charger so I set up an 50mm airplane outrunner motor swinging a 17 x 8 prop, mounted on my bench. I plug my batts in and monitor with a meter to read each cell and also run a watt meter in the setup to watch the amps. I use a servo driver so I don't have to have a radio hooked up. I can discharge a 5000mAh pack down to 3.2V per cell in less than 5 minutes! It amazes me because that's only pulling around 50-70A. The packs don't get hot at all but if they do start to warm up, I can throttle back to lower the amp draw.

but at 1amp, it takes a loooong time

You should keep them half charged. about 3.5 - 3.6V / cell. Mt charger has a storage setting, and it charges them to 3.6v/cell. Li polly do self discharge. Different one behave differently. My Flight-power self discharge more than my Turnagy. Take a look every few months just to check.

That would be below absolute depletion which is a resting voltage of 3.7v. The best storage voltage is 3.85v.
