    Rigger build questions

Need some advice guys. I am thinking of building a 3s rigger using a Hydro&Marine Excess 1 (the smaller 23 inch one) with a Feigao 540l 4096kv and I would like to use my seaking 180esc, but I doubt it will fit. (great esc, but it is the size of a small hamburger! lol) could I use an Aquacraft 60a UL-1 esc or would I fry it?? Also with 3s this motor will be turning 45,465rpm unloaded, is this way to much or can I get away with it?? It should haul, but I might have to get a lesser kv motor. Any comments and suggestions welcome. This is a great forum to gain knowledge from.

You dont need an "L" size can to power that hull. A 540S is plenty. If you already have it then go for it but the larger "L" size motor would be a choice if you needed to swing a larger prop then a normal one for a 24" hull. 45k is pretty far out there in rpm. I would shoot for below 40k as your target. If your set on 3S look for your target kv at more like 3300kv. Thats plenty to get that hull screaming.

You are headed for trouble with your current plans. First the motor Kv is way too high for 3S (it would be find on 2S though). The high Kv would draw high amps and burn a cheap ESC. A UL-1 controller won't work on just 3S, plus the amp rating is too low anyway.

That little boat will run well on 2S, but for 3S get a 9L or 10L. Perhaps a Swordfish 120 ESC will fit.

Thanks m4.....what about the 4096l on 2s? Right around 30,000 rpm. You think the aquacraft esc can handle this motor on 2s or 3s? I appreciate the info bro.

Thanks fluid. I think Im gonna go the 2s route. So you cant run a ul-1 esc less than 4s? I recently fried a feigao 2731kv in my Ul-1.....trying to run it on stock esc and 4s. Ripped for 2 runs and then cooked. I thought I burned up my esc...but it was the motor! A testament to the Ul-1 esc! Im keeping my Ul-1 stock from now on, it flies anyway with the 40/52 prop I put on it. You live and you learn, I just dont want to screw up again. Having a blast and learning. I think the xcess rigger will haul on 2s and I found a hull for $120. Thanks again for the advice
