Help choosing large apache style hull

    Hi all!

My new project will be a scale looking and slow(ish) moving apache.

But the problem is what to get...

There is Aeromarine 50 and 56 and MHZ has 52,56,60 and 80" long hulls.

I am thinking of the 60" mhz version with their scale looking z-drive(single).

There is not too good pictures of any of them so if you got them, show them!

The next part is something I know most of you wouldn´t do but here it goes...

-I plan on using only single graupner 820bb motor, with MMM and 4s2p.
(Possibly later will add another set on and make it twin)

The reason is simple, Scale looking and going apache. -No 40s20p supergt...stuff on this build.

My friend has this ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFNFu5OfjVU )60" long,20" wide and 25" high hull that weights over 20kg´s empty and has dual MMM and 820´s on graupner Z drives on 4s and it moves fast enough for me. (planes fast and moves nice) -on that video it had too smal props and the drives were a bit too low.

I dont know what the weight is on these apaches, but it cant be more then half of what my friends boat weights.

Both (MHZ and Aeromarine) versions cost about the same to me here.
(well, the 50" aeromarine is the cheapest by far, 56 versions cost double of that but prices are the same on both manufacturers )

    Aeromarine http://www.gizmomotors.com/index.php...hk=1&Itemid=56

    MHZ

So tell me who makes the most scale looking and coolest apache! -and what size version looks coolest.

I have an Aeromarine Apache 50, love the hull. I was powered with a gasoline engine since new in 1999. Now I'm converting it to brushless.

The difference in size from the 50 and the 56 is huge. You could almost put the 50 inside the 56. I have friends with the 56 and it takes a lot of power to get them moving. The 50 is light and will go pretty fast with moderate power.

Mine went 50 MPH with a stock Zenoah 26cc gasoline engine. Now its getting twin Leopard 4074 motors and scale outdrives. Its going to be more of a scale build than speed.

I'll follow your build with interest. The Apache is one of my all time favorite hulls. I wish we had a scale class for the vintage monos like we do for the hydros
Boats don't win races, drivers do.

        I just ordered 58" version.

When it arrives(few weeks) I will start an build thread.

Nice size boat you are getting there. i studied your princess build and your friends build before i started my 40" scarab build. I know very different scale, but my goals were similar to yours. I was amazed how fast I was able to push my hull on a pretty small motor and power levels. I think you will have success on this one, and I will be watching.

My desire is to still do a very scale 55" scarab build one of these days.

Brian, scale speed boats are great in any scale! Glad to read that smal motor worked for you.

The hull I ordered will be 5kg´s and that would make it close to 8kgs rtr.

Does any1 got any info of this?

I do like the looks, but the exposed flex worries me a bit. -and wouldn´t there be grease everywhere if one would pull the trigger on land? -maybe it is possible to use teflon liner the whole way, idk.

Any scale drives out there that are not gear driven?

Great project of yours I'm thinking of doing a similar semi scale project using one of the Werner (WD-200) Z drive.

There is a guy (FloggingHarvey) in another forums (JRBD.com) who is using that drive with a gas engine in Dumas boat. Can't remember the name of the boat, but its the same as in the Miami Vice movie

He had good experience with Werner and the drive is top notch. Werner recommend using teflon liner all over the flex cable to the leg so that there won't be any exposed cable.

This Z drive combines the look of a Z-drive with the ease of maintenance of direct drive instead of gears. Love it

Will sure be watching this thread.

              Good luck.

              JC

The z-drive is really big, 183mm long, so prop would be far from transon, is this ok?

THe lenkstrut drive that wd200 sells also should be better for 57" hull? -it is shorter.

And is there any scale looking rudders out there? -was thinking two of these struts

And then one rudder to the center, or one next to both drives. -would 1 centered rudder work? -if it is further then the props from transom it should ,right?

Cant find any rudders that are symmetrical,(when looking from behind the transom the rudder would be bolted left and right side.) -so it would look the same no matter witch side of the hull you would look at it.
(not like this that have only bolts on the left side of the bracket.

-Or can the bracket/rudder be flipped over, so I would have one that has bolts on left and one that has them on the right side? -! never thought that...

(trying to make this to look really nice)

                Any ideas welcome!

                  Still searching hardware parts!

-The steerable strut"lenkstrut" would be nice, but I was thinking what the flex does when turning...-fe uses firm collet at motor, but gas engines have square flex/collet so the flex can move a bit. So could this lenkstrut then not work with fe? -dont want the prop shaft move closer /further to/from transom when driving/turning!

No one is having any thoughts about scale/nice looking rudders/struts?
