    New To Electric Boats

    Hello fella's..

Well I have been doing RC's for to long LOL but I think its time I gave the Electric Boat scene a go.. I've been big into the Hpi Baja's for almost 5+ yrs now. Some of you might reconize the username. Ever since getting into 1/5 scale and gas engines I have wanted to get a gas boat. I think going Electric would be a lot easier for me.

So I have only been looking at a few various RTR's and kits I have come across since joining up over here. Venom and ZippKits. Now I realize that Zippkits doesnt really have an "Electric Specific" kit listed but I would imagine that anything they sell or make can be converted over fairly easily.

I'd like to get an offshore boat since I live here on Long Island. Yes we have lakes and ponds but I would really have fun at the beach with a boat. Also another reason behind going Electric is a lot of our local lakes do not allow gas engines in their waters. So this will be a good thing..

I've build a few Dumas & Midwest boat kits over the last couple of years, Cranberry Ilse was one of my last so I dont think building a kit would be an issue.
What would you guys recommend for getting started in electric boats??

I was looking on the Zippkits website and these caught my attention..

    1- Illusion Gas Tunnel
    2- Rockett Hydro
    3- Box

I've heard some NOT SO GOOD things about the Venom boats so what do you guys think??

I myself am not a huge Venom fan. They re-badge their electronics and over-charge, they also do not design their own boat. They get pre-made china hulls and throw a nice paint job on them. For RTR stick with Aquacraft or PB.

I don't know anything about the zippkits, but if you want to run at the beach your gonna want a hull that can handle some rough water and take some abuse. I would say a Rico would do nicely on that. If tunnel hulls are what you looking for the VS1 has been easily converted over to FE many many times or if your looking for a FE tunnel that's RTR Stiletto is an option.

Welcome to OSC Chris nice to see you have also got into boats too. I think you would like something like this:

It's a sexy cat too. The seller is Benjamin and I have bought from him recently and he is great, with all my nub questions.

You can build a nice boat from his site for about $400 minus servo and radio.

One of my friends bought the Venom King of Shaves 26cc gas boat...
Original engine was impossible to start, everything else has been replaced and rebuilt after about 3 runs....
Its now running great, but with only the rudder and drive shaft remaining original.
        The Hull is great though!

If I were you, id probably just get the traxxas spartan and go from there.
Ive learnt in the last few months that brushless RC cars and Boats are verrry different from each other.

To be very frank, if you have any building skills, buy a bare hull for offshore use and stick the best gear in it that your budget will allow

I have heard Frank say this before, and I must agree.

              I'm from HBF too

Is there a virus that gets the baja drivers?
              Do you remember my Nik?
I've been running a used Aeromarine Titan 29" from a couple of months. I live on the west cost of Tuscany and that boat is awesome on raught water in the sea.

Thanks for the replies guys, great to see some familiar names over here!!
Skipster from HBF got me over here but I have been wanting to get a gas boat for awhile now just have been to busy with other stuff.

I think an E Boat will be a lot easier on me..

You guys for sure posted some sweet links and yeah I think I am now a Boat Junkie! Just looking at all these builds, projects and whats currently available Electric just seems the way to go. Dont get me wrong I will never slap a E Conversion into a Baja that I own, that 2stroke smell and sound will never be silent at least not for me!!

Thanks again guys and its great to see all of you from HBF here too!
