Well I went ahead and pulled the boat apart to clean it up and redo a few things that were bothering me.

Can you guys confirm what motor this is? It does have the kv rating you guys mentioned for the 1515 1Y but no model ID.

It really looks like my wiring has been getting hot. The foam from the noodles I put in the bow was melted to the ESC to motor bullets.

Laddie, that motor on 6S is toast for the run times I presume you mention and I can not believe you say the temperatures are cool....tell us more on your setup???

Not sure what else there is to say. I have it all pulled apart and this is what each part has written on it:

            Neu/Castle Motor 2200kv

            Hobbywing / SeaKing 180A Version 2
            DC Input 2-6S LiPo
            Super BEC 5.8v/3A

Venom 6400 mah (there are two of these in the boat, wired in series)
            Configuration 3s2p
            Weight: 17.6oz (498.95g)
            Dimensions: 135x42.3x40mm
            Charge Rate: 1C (6.4A)
            Continuous Discharge: 20c (128A)
Min Discharge Volts Per Pack: 9V
            Max Burst Rate: 30C (192A)
            Max Volts Per Pack: 12.6V
            Watt Hours: 59.8

Propeller has Prather 235 cast onto it, and it is driven by a 3/16" flex shaft.

The motor to ESC bullets are 5.5mm. Every other connection is Deans, which I am replacing with 5mm bullets because they have been getting hot.

I assure you the batteries are not getting hot with this combination and run times are 6-8 minutes, but you guys have me REALLY nervous about the reliability of this setup. I've had no problems with burning up parts at all, which is a miracle considering my history with r/c hobbies. What is the consensus? Go back to a Prather 215 and run it 4S?

By the way Douggie, I've been reading a lot of Conan Doyle recently, your word usage reminds me of him. You're really Scottish?

Oh aye, a Glaswegian. Those batteries are dubious at best and may explain your low temperatureres and run times....Run 4S with quality batteries or 6S with a different quality lower rpm to volt motor and a HV ESC

Maybe I've gotten lucky that these batteries have such a low discharge rate.

The closest I've come to Scotland was London. Our tour driver to Stonehenge was a Scotsman though, and I'm fairly sure he was drunk.

Any place that builds a huge replica of Texas' famous armadillo is okay in my book.
