    setup advice

i am looking for new motors for my 32" skunk cat. I had x2 1900 3026 scorpions on x2 5s 5000mah 40c packs. It ran pretty fast and cool but at the end of the summer i burnt out my left motor. now i need to create version 2

    observations
    1. boat was too heavy, and had poor handeling compared to my froends single motor 6s king of shaves.

    2. Had so much run time i could run the boat 3 or 4 time on a single charge with some to spare.

    3. I had a few issues, and broke 3 flex shafts on the same side.

for version 2, My current plan is to move the motors to the front, and ditch the flex cable and switch to wire drive. i am also going to get new batteries and run x2 3s 5700 mah in series to two new motors. i could use some sugestions on what motors to buy. i was thinkin of gettin 2 1600 kv castle nue motors that are so cheap now. do you think i would get a performcea increase.

Those big castles physically prob won't fit.I'd run 540xl's.check out my build thread.my motors aren't xl's,but they will run good.

Larry's suggestion of twin 540XL's would really move her out........for 6s id go 12XL

or, for stupid fast, twin Leopard 4060's

Plenty of similar boats have been built with everything about the same except a single, larger motor. Higher speeds would have improved handling too. I doubt that weight was the problem.

From the large amount of run time you had, the boat was running too slowly due to small props. That setup should have run larger props.

        3. I had a few issues, and broke 3 flex shafts on the same side.
Were you running both motors the same direction, or opposite directions? Using the wrong lay cable will cause frequent breakage.

Like the others, I'd use Feigao "XL" motors. They are heavier, you could use "L" motor to save a few ounces. Kv in the 1450-1600 range. Balance the boat about 32-34% ahead of the sponson transoms. Photos would help.

i agree 2 L motors should work since your splitting the load, remember from hobby king that boat comes with one L sized motor 1620 kv

            I bought 2 Arc motors from WWW.lightflightrc.com
Haven't finished the build yet,but have heard nothing but good things about them.leopard also makes a 36x74 motor worth looking at.

were you running contra rotating? If you kept breaking a shaft on one side, remember, for the right hand rotating motor you have to have a right hand lay flexshaft! If you use a regular shaft (left lay) it will unwind and snap.

the boat sat verrry low in the water due to very heavy rienforcements and had a tendency to barrel roll in a decently hard turn. I was using 45mm counter rotating props and didnt go any bigger because i was afraid of too much stress on the .15 driveshaft and the load on my aquastar120s. The drive shafts had way to much of a bend on them so i figure if i gotta rip em out i might as well try the wire drives insted.

Fluid: wit 35k rpm and cr 45 it still moved pretty good..., but i need more speed for nxt year, you all know what i mean haha

I was thinking of stealin my bros 10xl outta his rigger that he never runs and jus pick up another off ose. Is too much rpm and load on the aquastar 120s runnin six cells???

Nope, I run 6S on T-120s w/ 10Xls in my HOTR. Runs cold and fast. Run times are short though, like 2 min or less. You cant fit 2 -6S packs in there, so you run 2-3S seriesed up and paralleled back out. Pulls about 80A using 442s.

Remember, your splitting the load between two motors. They dont have to work near as hard to propell the boat. The readings were straight off my eagletree.

Actually to be a bit more accurate, peak was 91A, average was around 65-70. I will have to find the file.
