    Schulze esc and NEU motors...

Ok I have 3 schulze 40-160wk V16's... all the last version with the copper board....

I have heard that the schulzes don't play nice with the NEU motors.... anyone with any experience with this please chime in....

wondering what NEU motors people have tried with the Schulze 40-160 and what the results were..? I am running all three of mine paired up with NEU 2215's..... one of the boats is my pt45 w/2215 in my avatar and my 54" mhz twin 2215 cat....

Racers, Fluid.....Please chime in with your thoughts... thanks in advance...

Jay talks about the Schulze in post 37 and 41

I'm thinking of doing a Q powered Sprintcat over the winter with SAW possibilities down the road.
I have no idea what controller to get now.

thanks... sounds like he is just saying the D winds are having the problem? but RaceMechanix said he popped a couple shulzes on the 2215 y winds... thats what concerns me as thats what I am using them on ?

        Jason,

As I mentioned I have only run my Schulzes with a 2215 1.5Y in my AM Conquest. Its been a mixed success. Early on the Schulzes worked pretty good after I sorted out the vaporized cap lead issue which was my fault. I ran them pretty hard, however after several failures I can barely get off the beach. I have not checked to see if the motor is faulty, but I am suspect that after so many repairs the controllers are difficult to bring back to original durability.

A note that I am running all the newer style boards with logging which seem to have more issues than the older versions.

I have run the same set-up with Castle controllers, but similar success. When I pushed the prop load I would usually fail the Castles as well. I did not expect to fail a new 40.303 though 30 feet off the beach.

Myself I have been having issues with mid rpm cogging using the Leopard 5692 and the 40.160 v16. I thought it might be packs. Nope. Tried new connectors/wiring. Nothing improved. Seemed worse on 8S then on 10S.

            I've run 1515 1D,1515 1Y, 1521 1.5D,1521 1Y, 1527 1D & 2220 1Y on my 41.160s without a problem. The late Capt. Ron set several S&T Mono records with the 2215 1Y and the 40.160 without a problem. Chris Harris has set several P Hydro records with D winds and the 40.160.
Ken Haines and Mike Martin have also done well with the Neu/ Shultze combination. Although Ken did smoke the newer 40.303? control in his T Hydro.
I guess it's the luck of the draw fellas. But clearly they can work well together.

              Doug,

Were you using the older style or newer style Schulze's?

                Hey Tyler,
They are the old style controllers.

The issue seems to be related to the newer hardware versions. When I first started using the 40.160wk with the Neu 2215 I set the timing to 10 degrees assuming this was the better than "autotiming". However, the autotiming caused an immeadiate failure right after launch. OK controller sent back for the first time. The second time I ran the setup i left everything alone and in the "auto" mode. The controller worked flawlessy for 7~8 runs then poof, several fets burned up. It was sent back to be repaired and when it came back it was run once when it dunked and crushed the hatch an due to brackish water and electrolosis it burned up another fet sitting under water and was the cap leads were severely corroded so I sent it back again. Following the third return it only went 30ft off the beach and failed again.

As i told Jason, I am not running Neu Schulze combos any more. Instead I will run Castle/Neu's and Schulze/Lehners in till the software issue is resolved.

As referenced above, I have had issues with the previous generation 40-160 and Neu "D" motors. As far as the "Y"motors, none at all - a 1527/1Y works great in my 6S cat for oval racing - just won Q Hydro with it at a mixed fuel race this weekend in fact.

I watched Mark F set records with the older 40-160 and Neu 22-series "Y" motors at SAWs so there is compatibility with the older versions. We may be forced to go back to 2-pole motors for SAWs if we can't get reliable high power ESCs to work with the most potent Neus.
