    adhesive/epoxy recommendation

    hello peoples,

I AM WORKING ON MOUNTING MY HK4035'S MOTORS IN MY 44 INCH CAT..I HAVE NO WAY OF USING NUTS AND BOLTS TO MOUNT THE MOTOR MOUNTS IN THE HULL...SOOOO I HAVE TO USE SOME SORT OF EPOXY/ADHESIVE TO ATTACH THE MOUNTS TO THE HULL...I WILL FIBERGLASS THEM IN ONCE THE ADHESIVE IS SET...WHAT WOULD YOU GUYS RECOMMEND TO DO THIS...KEEP IN MIND THAT IT MAY HAVE TO WITHSTAND A LITTLE HEAT AND BE SUPER STRONG..ANY THOUGHTS?

    THANKS FOR THE TIME

i have used this stuff to glue wood, metal, and acrylic to polyester and epoxy resin fiberglass:

        system three T-88

I have a boat that has acrylic and styrene glued to polyester built in 2004 that is still holding strong. styrene is supposedly difficult to glue to other materials.

west systems marine epoxy is excellent stuff, also slow setting epoxies work better than fast ones.

Can you give a link to the exact mounts ?
Which type/brand of epoxy you'll use, isn't that important.
More important is prepping the mounts and the hull.

here are the mounts and how they are going to sit against the inside of the hull..the legs of the mount are going to be glassed in after they are epoxied in..unless anyone has a better idea then i wiould go with that

Agreed with what all of you had to say. I have done a lot of epoxy/glass work making molds etc. West systems is amazing stuff...the slower setting, the stronger the bond. Period.
Prep is the key, as already mentioned. Sanding the area to be glassed, with 80grit...wiping down with denatured alcohol...then sand your part to be glassed, wipe down with alcohol etc...and apply glass/epoxy. With recoats, or more layers once the first is dry. It is key to scuff the surface again. Applying epoxy, is in a weird sense, somewhat similar to prepping and area for paint.

yes, good sanding of both surfaces to be rough, then 24 hour epoxy mixed with microbaloons (the final form to be very viscous like putty)

I also use laminating resin for structural attachment. Much stronger than the fast hobby epoxies. Instead of all micro balloons, I will also use milled glass fibers to add strength, or kevlar pulp if I want it realy strong. Use some micro balloons to lighten up the density. Very very strong.
