    motor pole info

Any one know how to figure out how many poles a motor might have?

some motors I know are sold with out this information.

Also what value resistor to use on the ESC neg lead to prevent sparking when you
    plug in the power leads?

    thanks

only way i could think of would be to take the rotor out and check the rotor with a compass.
there shourd be one north and one south for a 2 pole, so the white end of the pointer and the red end of the pointer sould only point towards the rotor once each as you rotate it. 4 pole will have 2 norths and 2 souths and so on.
but this means you have to pull the rotor out. wont work through the casing.

From what I know just by hand testing-which is turning the motor shaft or prop(with batts unplugged of course),a 2 pole will turn very very easy with no resistance.A 4 pole or higher will be harder to turn and you feel more resistance or cogging.

        oh ok.
I pm'd one of the folks here (fightercat57) on a certain motor and he said it was probably X pole motor.

I tried something out. I marked the motor and housing and then turned the motor by had and counted the detents. It was exactly double the the number that he told me. So with that in mind, would it be possible that on greater numbered motors you could do this and find out how many poles the motor acutally has?

Just taking a Wild A _ _ Guess is all.
