Do I need a turn fin

Do I need a turn fin on my 27" Lap Cat Tunnel hull?? When I got this boat it was set up with a nitro motor, I converted it to electric. I am in the process of repairing the hull after a esc blew the hull apart. So I don't know weather to fill the holes for the turn fin or reinstall the fin.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I'd have to say it depends. The original LapCats had a very shallow deadrise on the sponsons and didn't turn well without a fin. I believe that Prather changed the sponsons on at least one size of their LapCats in later production runs but I don't remember which. Sorry I can't be more specific.

If it is an early one, you definately need one. the deadrise was very shallow on these and the turn fin was the band aid.

Thank you, I think this one is more than seven years old and it did have one on it when I purchased the boat with a 3.5 K&B nitro motor on it. I ran it with the nitro several time and it was like it was on rails. After I converted it to FE I ran it about 3 times in one day just to set the motor angle/depth. The 4th time as I connected the esc, BOOM. It blew the seam apart in the front of the boat. I am in the process of making repairs to the hull and was wondering if I needed to reinstall the fin. Looks like I need to.

            Thanks for your help,
