When installing a stuffing tube in a mono, should the stuffing tube stick out from the transom and into the strut?Or should it be the teflon liner(if using one)?

Just MHO. Nothing more then my experience. But I prefer to cut the stuffing tube very close to flush with the transom. That way the stinger can move with just the liner for a water proof seal. If you dont use a liner I guess it doesnt matter as much. Since most of my builds use a liner its straight forward. Depending on what stinger I am using and the best method to seal against the stuffing tube/transom wall will decide how much of the tube sticks out. I like to either cut a seal out of silicone tubing or use o-rings stacked against each other. The key is to leave mobility, yet seal out the water. Its easy with the Aeromarine stingers, havent played with the chi versions. I leave anywhere from 1/4" to 3/8" sticking out and go from there.

I ran a .187 cable in my DF copy with no teflon. When I built the boat,I cut the stuffing tube so it was flush with the transom. When the stinger is bolted on,there is a gap between it and where the cable goes through it and the hull.I greased the hell out of the cable everytime after a run, only to see the grease was driven to the strut and flung out.No water came in,but the cable ran so hot it cut the stuffing tube and ruined the whole drivetrain. My problem is the grease kept coming out and the cable ran dry.Comment

Stuffing tube flush and the teflon liner into the strut a good 1/2" or so minimum............Last edited by Make-a-Wake; 11-29-2010, 12:58 AM.NEED PARALLEL CONNECTORS?? QUALITY 5.5MM, 8MM, 8 AND 10 AWG, GET THEM HERE:http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...est!&highlight=
