    I want in and need some advice?

    Hey Guys, Im new to FE boating but not new to the r/c world. I live on the gulf coast with everything from ponds, lakes rivers and the gulf of mexico to run in. Ive been reading the OSE forum like an addiction since I discovered you guys. This by far is the best forum ive ever seen, so I trust your opinions! I just need some advise on where to start on getting my feet wet...

    This is what im looking for in a boat;
    -A good platform to start from.
    -Speed to start is not that important, 30ish would be nice and plenty of room for improvements and upgrades.
    -I'll be running on glass and slight chop (pond fountain size)
    -10 or so minute run times or longer if possible...
    -Quality parts, durability and availability.

    I love the look and the size of the Miss Geico, its what got my interest in the FE world. My biggest problem is there is nobody around me that runs boats so I dont have anyone to gain knowledge from first hand and be able to learn by talking to someone with a boat in front of me and to show me the ropes.

    Is the Miss G a good choice for a solid platform in which to start and learn from? I know the SV27 is a common suggestion but really that boat does nothing for me.
    Ive been spoiled with their styling and looks after seeing the real Miss G and the others running at Thunder on the Gulf every year. These boats are sexy as hell in real life!!!

    Thank you!

      Welcome to the FE world! The Miss Geico is probably one of the best platforms for you to begin with. It will meet you initial speed goal handsomely and allow speeds to be increased substantially later on. It is not without a few minor issues, but frankly so are all RTR boats and these are easily fixed. Rather than me trying to write a too-short synopsis, read some of the threads on the boat and make up your own mind.

      Run time with FE boats depends on several things - speed, driving style, boat setup and pack capacity. The faster you run the shorter the run time. The more stopping and starting/slowing and accelerating you do, the shorter the run time. The looser the boat runs, the longer the run time. The greater the pack capacity, the longer the run time. But realistically, ten minutes plus is probably stretching it. Five to seven is more likely with a setup that is fast enough to be fun. If run time is real important, get the highest capacity packs you can buy.

        Those are both great platforms you're looking at. The MG or a cat will be more stable and have better performance, especially for a new FE racer. I started with a mono hull and never switched to a cat until almost a year later, what a different the cat hull is! I'd say go with the MG, with the right batts and prop youre looking at an easy high 30s speed with excellent handling, mine turns on a dime at top speed, carrying on the speed through the turns especially with the off set rudder.

        Also, keep in mind if youre going to run in salt water vs. fresh water, that's a whole different ball park. Salt will eat away at anything, so I'd suggest waterproofing the heck out of you boat if youre going to run it in the ocean.

          Thanks guys I appreciate it. I have learned from the past its easier and cheaper to get a good set up the first time and go from there! I just want to make the right choice...
