    Speedmaster strut and wire drive

Can you use the Speedmaster Stinger strut with a wire drive?

Remember the propshaft is still 3/16th . It really don't matter so much what the cable or wire diameter is leading up to it:).

I'm a noob, so is a wire drive better then a flex cable? Is it stronger?

I run wire almost exclusively...even in my Speedmaster 'stinger' struts (the boat in my avatar has one). The wire's advantages are lower cost, ease of self assembly, lower friction. Disadvantages are no big "S" bends, alignment is more critical, and few folks know much about them. Flex cable works fine and for a beginner it may be a better way to go.

            drive assembly

hey Fluid, do you assemble your own wire drives? if so how? solder or glue? just wondering about the reliability of "glue" with the wire. i use Loctite 603 for my cables, with excellent results, and was thinking about using it for the wire too.

My first time using a wire drive was not so great... I'm sure It was something I did (that's what everybody else said)but, I caught hell. Keep In mind the driveline was just barely a curve and very smooth turning. First, the wire would slip with just a touch of the trigger when put It under a load In the water. The wire would not stop slipping In the coupler untill I ground a flat spot on both sides of the wire for the alan heads.

I got that under control then, the teflon liner I used melted to result In spinning the prop shaft loose from the wire. Stinger drive, 9xl, 12 nimh In a 25" hull. I never did figure out what the problem was... Maybe I should not have run the teflon liner or, It was to tight. I will try again with a larger wire than the .62 and no teflon liner. prop was new and balaned very well also...
