ESC size for this triton setup

    Hi,
I have a triton hull, a castle creation 1518 1800KV motor, and plan to run on 4S2P with a large prop like a x450 or x648. I purchased a swordfish 120A ESC but am hearing that might not be so smart...

What amp ESC should I be targeting?

    Thanks,
    Chief

Thats a lot of prop for that boat cheif...

If you find it doesnt handle that well, or hops in the turns, try a smaller prop.

We've got a pretty wide set of bouys on our course so it does not need to turn that sharp, but I'll let you know how it goes.

Chief, I had that hull and they do not like big props at all. Actually had success with X442 and X642. Let us know how it goes. Good luck.

I agree with the prop size also... unless you have to run 4s in the class I would run the x442 with 5s :) smaller prop more rpm, less amps and more go with better turning... if you have to go 4s I would say a x447 is gonna be more then enough.... my titan 29 runs a 10xl with a x447 on 4s2p and hits a gps verified 47mph... and thats a 1668 kv motor... the 1800kv with x447 should push her at least that fast.. plenty for racing...

Since I have both you and Keith on this thread and you have both owned this boat---

Seems like more RPM and less prop will result in better handling, but...

...trying to figure out the battery placement given the flood chamber and the rails that were installed in the boat.

4S2P using 2S packs will work-- I'd put 2 x 2S in the nose on that tray that was installed there, 1 2S along the flood chamber wall, and 1 2S pack on the right siide towards the rear. That will give me great balance.

How would I layout 5S2P and keep her balanced (meaning, need enough weight on left side to turn her over)? Could she work on 5S1P and squeek out 5min runtime on 5000mah pack?

                Chief

Are you running a 3s + 2s to get 5s or single 5s batteries? When I ran it I put 3 of the 4 batteries in front of the motor, velcro'ed to each other, and the strap towards the back of the batteries. Then I put the other one on the side opposite of the flood chamber. I actually ran it on 7s2p and 8s2p (way too much for the boat) and got away with it...took some experimenting though!

Chief, I always ran 2 2S packs like you were saying, I always velcroed the left one to the flood wall and laid the right one flat. Im not sure how you could fit 5s and get balance right. If i remember correctly the boat really liked the x642. I was running 4s, hydra 240, 8XL. Speedmaster hardware. The boat was fast on the straights but was always a little twitchy in the turns. I finally got it where I liked it and Im pretty sure that was with the X 642. Its real sensitive to cog and strut adjustments. Will

JMSCARD has a great deal on a pair of 5S hyperions... but I don't see how 2 5S packs will work. That being said, I want 2 full sets of batteries for 2 runs so would this work:

                      5S in the nose
2S along the floodchamber wall by the motor
                      3S in the right rear.

Would there be any issue making 5S2P by using a single 5S pack combined with 3S+2S packs provided they are all the same make, c rating, and mah?
