    Big power coupler's questions

Need some good advise here. I am running 2215's (8mm shaft's) to .250 flex cables and I currently have both the octura collet style and I have the Jeff Wohlt alum. couplers that use a few set screws around the coupler. Which are people having luck with? I have only tried the collet style and they are slipping and VERY stinking hard to tighten. I am almost having to pickup a 35lb boat when I loosen them to get my drive shafts out. However I really wonder if the set screw type are going to be any bettor as far as the screws coming loose. Any thoughts?

Mine should not slip with 6 screws on the cable. Once you solder the end of the cable it should be fine. I can also put in the pointed set screws but they are a little hard on the cable but lock on well.

ok, yes you are correct. I have the ones with 6 screws to the cable. I have no solder at all yet on the cables so I will do so and try yours. Thanks for the assurance. They actually are so pretty and well made I didn't want to use them sorry to doubt ya Jeff cause these collet style are terrible in my opinion

Not at all... Some collets work better but the ones I have sold are mamoth and I can't imagine they balance well but maybe they do.

Set screw are lighter, balanced better and should be able to take the power....if not I can turn them from a higher grade Aircraft Alum...much harder but can also become brittle.

Yes, the cable MUST be soldered. I would use a good silver solder so it is hard. Also, always use loctite thread locker.

I can also make them with much larger set screws...currently I use 6/32 but could go to 8/32. 6 of those is a lot of holding power.
